On Friday, January 12, 2024, Japanese broadcast network TV Asahi made an exciting announcement that a Shoshimin anime adaptation of the mystery novels with the same name is scheduled to premiere later this year. The anime, known in Japanese as the Shoshimin Series, also revealed its cast, key staff, and other important details.
It is worth noting that the latest news about the Shoshimin anime includes the reunion of several staff members from the television anime adaptation of The Promised Neverland manga series. Despite some criticism of the narrative choices in the adaptation of author Kaiu Shirai and illustrator Posuka Demizu's original manga series, the overall production was well-received.

The Shoshimin anime series, based on Honobu Yonezawa's mystery novel series, is scheduled to premiere in Japan in July 2024. It will be part of TV Asahi's NUMAnimation block and has been officially translated as "How to Become Ordinary" in English. The anime will adapt the novels "The Case of the Springtime Limited-Edition Strawberry Tart" and "The Case of the Summertime Limited-Edition Tropical Parfait" from the series, which were published in 2004 and 2006 respectively. The upcoming release will bring the total number of books in the series to five.
The main cast for the series has been revealed, with Shuichiro Umeda taking on the role of Jogoro Kobato and Hina Yomiya playing Yuki Osanai. The story follows protagonist Jogoro Kobato, who desires a quiet and ordinary life after a painful experience. Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the upcoming Shoshimin anime adaptation. The mystery novels by Honobu Yonezawa have captivated me with their intricate plots and complex characters. The anime's release in July 2024 is something I eagerly anticipate. The reunion of staff members from The Promised Neverland anime, despite some criticisms, gives me hope for a high-quality production. I believe the Lapin Track animation studio will bring Yonezawa's world to life in a visually stunning way.
The main characters, Jogoro Kobato and Yuki Osanai, resonate with me as Gen Z individuals. Their desire for a quiet and ordinary life, yet their constant involvement in mysteries and disasters, reflects the complexities and challenges we face in our own lives. The "mutually beneficial relationship" between Kobato and Osanai highlights the importance of collaboration and support in overcoming obstacles. I am excited to see how their characters develop and how they navigate the enigmatic world of Shoshimin.
