Lin Shaye, star of Insidious: The Red Door, shared her thoughts on the potential conclusion of the horror franchise in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant. As the series explores new directions, Shaye believes that it is fitting for the Lambert family's story to come to an end with The Red Door. She expressed worries about shows overstaying their welcome, but also mentioned that this doesn't mean the world of Insidious is completely finished. Read on to find out more about Shaye's perspective:
I believe that everything follows a pattern of starting, progressing, and concluding. In storytelling, there are times when it's enough, as they say, because we've all experienced shows that we thought would never end. Certain series tend to drag on, making us question if they will ever come to a close. [Laughs]
Being a creator, it is important to possess the insight to recognize when it's best to wrap up a narrative. In this case, the world of Insidious may continue, but this particular story now has a well-defined beginning, middle, and end. I commend the script and the captivating tale it tells.
What The Future Holds For The Insidious Franchise
Insidious: The Red Door marked an exciting comeback for franchise fans with its announcement that Wilson would be making his directorial debut on the sequel. The original principal cast and Shaye were also set to return. However, it was disappointing for fans when the final trailer revealed that the movie would be the "conclusion" to the franchise, leaving little hope for the Further.
Things became even more uncertain when Sony announced a spinoff called Thread, starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, and directed by Jeremy Slater. Wan and producer Jason Blum recently confirmed that the project is still in early development stages, but Wan is approaching it in a similar way to how he develops spinoffs for The Conjuring Universe.
If Thread achieves the same level of financial success as the Annabelle movies and The Nun, it would be fascinating to witness the development of other spinoffs closely related to Insidious: The Red Door. Shaye exclusively shared with Screen Rant her interest in further exploring Elise's niece, Imogen, and her potential ideas for a companion artbook or story treatments to ensure the franchise's continuation.
