Scotland continued their winning streak by defeating Cyprus 3-0 on Friday. This victory marked their fifth consecutive win and has positioned them with a chance to qualify for Euro 2024 if Group A results go in their favor. In Larnaca, Steve Clarke made just one change to the established starting line-up by replacing Lyndon Dykes with Che Adams.
In addition to the Southampton man, John McGinn from Aston Villa and Scott McTominay, who is the joint top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying, continue to impress. Billy Gilmour and Callum McGregor are also notable players. If Clarke wants to make some changes at Hampden, there are plenty of options available.
The defense, consisting of captain Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, Ryan Porteous, Jack Hendry, and Aaron Hickey, has not conceded a goal from open play in these qualifiers. However, it remains to be seen if Nathan Patterson from Everton or John Souttar from Rangers will be given some playing time against England.
England struggled to break down Ukraine during their 1-1 draw in Poland on Saturday, with Kyle Walker scoring his first international goal to cancel out Oleksandr Zinchenko's opener. Steve Clarke: We're not there yet
Speaking after the triumph in Cyprus, Scotland manager Steve Clarke expressed, "We adhere to the game-to-game philosophy."We have been successful in a series of competitive matches, but I don't dwell on the past. I am aware that in this particular campaign, we have played five matches and accumulated 15 points. That is commendable.
"I believe that in the upcoming three games, we will accumulate a higher number of points.
"We consistently strive to challenge ourselves and avoid becoming complacent. The Scottish mindset reminds us that there may be obstacles or setbacks along the way.
"We said be different to the previous teams and come here to the pot five team and win again. That's your platform to qualify."
