The ex-president of Catalonia's Popular Party in Spain, Alejo Vidal-Quadras, was shot in the face in Madrid on Thursday afternoon, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Spain's Interior Ministry to CNN. The spokesperson added that Vidal-Quadras has been taken to the hospital while the National Police are conducting an investigation into the matter. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm local time.
Vidal-Quadras, a founding member of the far-right party Vox, is currently part of the third largest force in the lower house of the Spanish parliament.
Addressing reporters on Thursday afternoon, Vox Party President Santiago Abascal stated that it is premature to speculate but did not dismiss any possible motive regarding the incident.
