Hollywood star Ewan McGregor believes that having an intimacy coordinator for sex scenes in the new drama series "A Gentleman in Moscow" is still important. Even though he was acting alongside his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead, he emphasized the need for this role.
In an interview with UK magazine Radio Times for its latest cover story, McGregor explained that having an intimacy coordinator is necessary not only for the actors but also for the crew. He mentioned that it can be uncomfortable to be naked or intimate in front of the camera and other people on set.
"If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer," said the 52-year-old. "It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle."
The couple have been married since 2022. They share a son, Laurie, who was born the previous year.
The intimacy coordinator's main responsibility is to assist actors with intimate scenes on set, including contact kissing, physical touch, and simulated sex.
They work closely with actors and the production team to plan, choreograph, and communicate effectively to ensure everyone involved feels secure and at ease throughout the entire process.

Intimacy coordinators have become more popular in recent years. McGregor, who has four daughters from his previous marriage to production designer Eve Mavrakis, thinks this is a positive development.
In a Radio Times interview, McGregor mentioned his 22-year-old daughter Esther. He pointed out that young actors might feel pressured to do a nude scene if a renowned director requests it in order to progress in their career.
He added that five years later, she may reflect on her decision and think, "I wish I hadn't done that scene. Why am I naked in it? It's not needed."
Now she has someone to confide in whose success is not dependent on her.
McGregor stars as Count Alexander Rostov in the upcoming Paramount+ series "A Gentleman in Moscow." Winstead portrays actress Anna Urbanova in the same series.
The show is set to premiere on March 29th and revolves around a Russian nobleman who is confined to house arrest during the Bolshevik Revolution, as detailed by Paramount+.
