Earlier this year, HoYoverse concluded the seven-year-long main story of Honkai Impact 3rd, saying goodbye to the adventures of Valkyrie warrior Kiana. In February 2024, HoYoverse will release a new story with a fresh cast of characters and a new primary setting.

Even if you haven't played through the first saga, you can still enjoy the upcoming story. However, there will be significant connections to the overall Honkai lore. For players who want to start the next story with more context, we will recap the entire first saga of Honkai Impact 3rd, known as The Moon's Origin and Finality.

Kiana Kaslana, Bronya Zaychik, and Raiden Mei, who are students at Valkyrie, receive an urgent mission to regain control of an unmanned battleship before it crashes into the city.

Kiana, the brave Valkyrie warrior, soars towards the battleship. Onboard, the Valkyries engage in fierce combat against hordes of monstrous creatures spawned by Honkai, a mysterious and cataclysmic force hell-bent on annihilating humanity. With the invaluable support of their handler, Murata Himeko, Kiana, Mei, and Bronya triumphantly seize control of the vessel.

As night descends, Kiana experiences a peculiar dream, wherein she is contacted by a being who claims to be the long-deceased Herrscher of the Void. Herrschers, powerful vessels of Honkai energy, have historically been adversaries of mankind.

The End of Destiny (Chapters III-VI):

Kiana and her allies embark on a fresh mission to retrieve the Gem of Desire, a powerful artefact fueled by Honkai energy. However, before they can secure the gem, Kiana's class president, Fu Hua, unexpectedly intervenes and abducts her under the command of Otto Apocalypse. Otto, the head of Schicksal, the governing body responsible for training Valkyries and combating the Honkai, is behind this sinister plot.

Beneath the Descending Sky (Chapters VII-IX)

In order to rescue Kiana, Mei, Himeko, and the Valkyries of St. Freya join forces with Anti-Entropy, a competing organization against Schicksal, and launch an assault on the Schicksal headquarters. Unfortunately, Otto's meddling results in Kiana becoming possessed by Sirin, emerging as the newly awakened Herrscher of the Void.

As the new Herrscher of the Void, Kiana discovers Otto's true motives and turns against him. She engages in a fierce battle with the Herrscher of the Void, but Otto intervenes and allows the Herrscher to escape. Feeling betrayed by Hua, Otto coldly shoots her in the head, resulting in her death.

Following a prolonged fight with Sirin, Himeko sacrifices herself to administer an anti-Honkai serum, which enables Kiana to regain control of her consciousness. However, after the battle, Kiana mysteriously disappears while the Valkyries mourn the loss of their teacher.

Himeko's selfless act saves Kiana's life, but at a great cost. Following this tragic event, the St. Freya Valkyries and Otto's Valkyries are both determined to find Kiana and bring her back. As they embark on their search, the St. Freya Valkyries stumble upon the location of the precious Gem of Desire. With a shared goal but different paths, Mei's group carries on the search for Kiana, while Bronya and her group venture into the enigmatic Sea of Quanta, a realm beyond dimensions where the gem is now housed.

(Chapters X-XII): Journeying through the Deep Ocean

In the Sea of Quanta, Bronya is reunited with her childhood friend Seele Vollerei, who has been trapped there for years. Determined to free Seele, Bronya awakens as the Herrscher of Reason. Meanwhile, Seele encounters a dangerous organization known as the Word Serpent, led by Kevin Kaslana, a distant relative of Kiana.

Bronya, now the Herrscher of Reason, embarks on a journey with Seele to escape the Sea of Quanta, but unfortunately, they are unable to retrieve the precious gem.

"Streak of a Shooting Star in the Night Sky" (Chapters XI-EX, XIII & XIV)

Ever since Kiana obtained the anti-Honkai serum, she has been leading a solitary existence while grappling with the constant battle to restrain Sirin's Herrscher power. Unexpectedly, Kiana receives a communication from an embodiment of Hua. This manifestation of Hua discloses that, before her demise, she managed to upload her consciousness and now desires to make amends for her involvement in Kiana's capture.

Despite her lingering hatred for Hua, Kiana initially rejects her assistance. However, Hua manages to gain Kiana's trust by assisting her in permanently eliminating the influence of Sirin. With Sirin no longer a threat, Kiana embarks on the journey of mastering and controlling her Herrscher form.

Under the guidance of Durandal, the valkyrie team led by Otto uncovers World Serpent's sinister plot to detonate a Honkai-powered bomb within the city. Their intention is to forcibly create individuals with enhanced resistance against the Honkai.

Kiana and Mei are reunited and discover the World Serpent's plan. Realizing that there is no other option to prevent the detonation, Kiana embraces her role as the Herrscher of the Void and, with the assistance of Hua's avatar, absorbs the force of the explosion, saving the city. Notably, this marks the first time a Herrscher, traditionally seen as humanity's enemy, becomes the savior of humankind.

Durandal emerges, overpowering Mei and kidnapping a debilitated Kiana. He delivers her to a Schicksal facility, where she becomes a subject of forceful experimentation by the Schicksal scientists. In a sudden assault on the base, Kevin and a group of World Serpent soldiers aim to eliminate Kiana. However, Hua's avatar intervenes, engaging Kevin in combat, allowing Kiana to make her escape amidst the ensuing turmoil.

Returning to the city, Kiana is eventually located by Mei, but her deteriorating condition due to Honkai illness raises worrisome concerns.

Desperate to find a cure for Kiana, Mei strikes a deal with Kevin, agreeing to become the Herrscher of Thunder. In an effort to suppress Kiana's ailment, Mei shares a portion of her newfound Honkai energy power. As a consequence of this arrangement, Mei reluctantly joins World Serpent, leaving a heartbroken Kiana in her wake.

World Serpent assigns Mei the task of capturing the recently awakened Herrscher of Ice. Mei reluctantly teams up with Durandal and Rita, who are also on a mission to investigate the Herrscher.

With the help of an informant named Owl, the group uncovers the true identity of the Herrscher of Ice: Ana, a Schicksal Valkyrie. Unexpectedly, Owl undergoes a transformation and merges with Ana, transforming into the Herrscher of Stars. In a heated battle, Mei and Durandal successfully defeat the Herrscher, resulting in the demise of Ana and Owl.

Taixuan Dream (Chapters XX - XXII)

At Schicksal Headquarters, Hua's physical body suddenly comes back to life, revealing that Otto didn't actually take her life. However, she cannot fully recollect the events leading up to her demise until she crosses paths with Otto. Overwhelmed by emotions, "Hua" seeks revenge and seemingly puts an end to Otto's life while also wreaking havoc on Schicksal Headquarters. Following this, "Hua" returns to Taixuan Mountain, where Kiana and Bronya are also investigating, following the traces left by Hua's digital self. They discover that Hua is a MANTIS from a previous era, a warrior whose DNA merged with a human and the Honkai creature.

During the confrontation with the Herrscher of Sentience, Hua's true identity is unveiled. It is revealed that the person known as "Hua" is not the real Fu Hua, but rather the awakened Herrscher of Sentience inhabiting Hua's body. This revelation angers "Hua," who continues to believe herself to be the original Fu Hua.

Seeking assistance, Hua's avatar enlists the help of Kiana and Bronya to expel the Herrscher from Hua's body. Through a mental connection, Hua's avatar is able to reclaim her original form and suppress the Herrscher's influence. Accepting the truth that she is not the genuine Fu Hua, the Herrscher of Sentience agrees to vacate Hua's body, allowing Hua's avatar to regain control and restoring the true Fu Hua both in mind and body.

Remaining Flames (Chapters XXIII - XXV)

Herrscher of Dominance, freshly stirred from its slumber, seizes hold of Bronya and Hua, employing its extraordinary capability to confiscate their Herrscher powers. Kiana, her intellect at work, deduces that the Herrscher of Dominance possesses the ability to fashion its very own secluded realm. Armed with her own powers, she ventures into this dimension to rescue both Bronya and Hua.

In the battles of Flamescion, Kiana emerges as the ultimate victor, leading the charge alongside her loyal comrades and her trusted mentor. Unleashing their Herrscher power, the Herrscher of Dominance attempts to weaken Kiana by dredging up her sorrowful past. But Kiana remains resolute, unaffected by the Herrscher's assault, and unwavering in her belief in the inherent goodness of humanity and the beauty that exists in the world. Teaming up with Hua, Bronya, and her revered teacher Himeko, Kiana harnesses an even more formidable form as the Herrscher of Flamescion, leaving no remnants of the Herrscher of Dominance in her wake.

Thus Spoke Apocalypse (Chapters XXV-EX - XXVIII)

After surviving his encounter with “Hua”, also known as the Herrscher of Sentience, Otto has managed to revive his childhood love, Kallen. Now, he is prepared to execute his final plan of resetting the world. However, Kiana and her team uncover Otto’s grand scheme. In an attempt to hinder their interference, Otto sends Durandal, but to his surprise, Durandal switches sides and joins Kiana after discovering Otto's true intentions.

In the chapters titled 'To the Flawless' (XXIX - XXXI), Mei is accompanied by Kevin as they journey to the Elysian Realm. Mei's objective is to gain knowledge about the era that came before. The Elysian Realm is a digital realm constructed from the memories of the Flame Chasers, who were 13 warriors infused with Honkai energy and also known as MANTIS. During the final battle of the previous era against the Herrscher of Finality, the real bodies of these warriors were slain, leaving behind only their data in the world.

Elysia and the symbols of the Flame Chasers

Mei forms a bond with Elysia and uncovers the events that caused the extinction of the group long ago. The following day, Elysia's data is erased, effectively "terminating" her existence. More Flame Chasers meet the same fate, prompting Mei to investigate and unveil the newly awakened Herrscher of Corruption as the source of these "deaths".

In order to defeat the Herrscher of Corruption, Mei collaborates with the remaining Flame Chasers to restore Elysia's data, bringing her back to life. Elysia reveals her true form as the Herrescher of Humanity and her past as the first Herrescher to fight for the sake of humanity. This selfless act is what enables present-day Herrschers like Kiana, Mei, and Bronya to resist the sinister and destructive nature of Honkai, dedicatedly fighting on behalf of humanity.

In the epic battle between Elysia and the Herrscher of Corruption, Elysia and her loyal flame Chasers emerged victorious. However, this victory came at a steep price - the entire Elysiam Realm was sacrificed. As the dust settled, Mei, having fulfilled her mission, returned to the real world.

The Moon's Origin and Finality (Chapters XXXII - XXXV)

The final test of Honkai is about to commence, with two distinct factions offering different solutions for its survival: one is led by Kiana and her comrades, while the other is under the leadership of Kevin. Setting their sights on the moon, Kiana, Mei, and Bronya embark on a mission to confront Kevin, who has now emerged as humanity's ultimate trial to determine its fate. Defeating Kevin, Kiana encounters the Cocoon of Finality, an extraterrestrial being that wields control over Honkai. Acknowledging Kiana as the Herrscher of Finality, a being possessing near-divine power.

The Cocoon of Finality that controls HonkaiKiana opt to remain on the moon in search of a secure method to eliminate the threat of Honkai from Earth, while the remaining Valkyries return as its guardians.
