Minecraft has released a new DLC texture pack featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, adding to the game's long history of colorful crossovers with famous properties.
The Turtles are coming to Minecraft, giving players the opportunity to explore Minecraft-created settings such as New York City and engage in epic battles against well-known adversaries like Shredder and Krang. This crossover couldn't have come at a better time, as the Turtles are making a comeback on the silver screen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. By incorporating them as playable characters in Minecraft, the game is sure to attract a larger player base.
In preparation for the upcoming release of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Minecraft is teaming up with the beloved Heroes in a Half-Shell. Minecraft has a history of collaborating with popular franchises, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Jurassic Park, and Toy Story, by releasing licensed DLC texture packs featuring their characters and worlds.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a rich gaming legacy, with numerous titles released throughout the franchise's history. Recently, they have returned to their classic arcade-style beat-em-up roots with 2022's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. This game will soon receive a DLC expansion. Additionally, a darker, triple-A game based on The Last Ronin, inspired by Sony Santa Monica's God of War titles, was announced in March.
The Turtles have made their way to Minecraft with a colorful DLC texture pack that can now be purchased and downloaded. A trailer showcasing this exciting crossover has been released on the official Minecraft YouTube account. The trailer features the Turtles exploring Minecraft-built environments such as New York City and the Turtles' Lair, accompanied by the classic TMNT cartoon theme from the 80s. Along with the adventure, players will have the opportunity to battle iconic enemies like Shredder and Krang and personalize their avatars with 20 TMNT character skins.
Coinciding with the release of this exciting Minecraft content, the Turtles are also returning to the big screen in the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. In the movie, the brothers step into the outside world and undertake a mission to save it from an army of mutants. To promote the film, Microsoft is holding an online contest where players have the chance to win limited-edition, pizza-scented TMNT Xbox Series X/S controllers.
The timing of this new Minecraft crossover aligns perfectly with the return of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo to the public spotlight. After 12 years, Mojang's block-building, survival sandbox title continues to thrive, and the addition of the Turtles as playable characters will undoubtedly attract more players before the release of Mutant Mayhem later this week. Minecraft's blocky aesthetic seamlessly complements the vibrant character designs from the 1980s TMNT cartoon, and it will be fascinating to witness the creative endeavors of players utilizing this newly-unveiled texture pack. Minecraft is accessible on various platforms, such as PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Android and iOS devices.
