Although her true identity initially remained enigmatic, many speculated that she possessed a complexity beyond surface appearances. Guinan, born during the 1800s, first encountered Data, Picard, and their companions in 1893 when the Enterprise team was transported back in time. Collaborating with Mark Twain, she played a pivotal role in restoring the proper timeline. In 2024, Guinan established a bar on 10 Forward Avenue in Los Angeles, California, and coincidentally reunited with Picard during an incident involving an FBI agent obsessed with extraterrestrials. Dr. Renée Picard, an ancestor of Jean-Luc, was a regular patron at her establishment. Guinan's profound connection with Jean-Luc Picard greatly influenced her tenure with Starfleet.

With only a small number of El-Aurians remaining, they became scattered throughout the cosmos. Nonetheless, the El-Aurians possessed long lifespans which enabled their population to recover. Guinan, for instance, had been married at least 23 times during her extensive lifetime. Although the number of her children remains undisclosed and absent from any media, she confirmed being a mother to numerous offspring. The El-Aurians endured great hardships, yet their extended lifespans facilitated their ability to bounce back more readily compared to others.
