The trailer teases a new Pixar short that was initially meant to be part of the Dug Days Disney+ series in 2021, but will now be released as the opening short for Elemental in 2023. The late Ed Asner makes a posthumous appearance as Carl, who is seeking to move on with another woman and start a new chapter in his life.
Carl, who had been with his deceased wife since childhood, is preparing for his first date with the help of his talking dog, Dug. Despite being nervous, he practices his dance moves and tries out new cologne, much to Dug's dismay due to his sensitive nose. Additionally, Carl struggles to determine the perfect gift for his date.

Up, which was released in 2009, was an immediate success with both critics and audiences. It is one of Pixar Animation Studios' highest-rated films on Rotten Tomatoes, with a score of 98%. The film grossed over $735 million at the box office, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of the year. As a result, the critically acclaimed film was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Animated Feature.
