Embracer Group Unveils Unbelievable Game Pipeline for Thrilling Future

Gaming powerhouse Embracer Group astounds with a massive lineup of games in the works, many of which remain shrouded in secrecy

Embracer Group made a surprising announcement on June 21, revealing that they currently have 221 games in development. This includes games that have yet to be announced. This news comes shortly after Embracer Group announced their plans to cancel multiple games and close some of their studios as part of a comprehensive restructuring.

Prior to this restructuring, the Karlstad-based company had been actively acquiring companies for several years, spending over $8 billion on acquisitions in 2022 alone. In 2021, Embracer Group merged with Gearbox Software, Grimfrost, Fractured Byte, and several other companies. According to their recently published sustainability report, as of March 31, 2023, the conglomerate now owns 12 operative groups, encompassing 138 internal studios and employing a total of 16,601 people.

The company's latest brief reveals that it currently has 221 games in progress, with 165 of them yet to be announced. This marks a significant 47% increase compared to two years ago, when Embracer Group had 150 games under development. However, it remains uncertain how many of these projects will actually make it to the market, especially considering the company's ongoing restructuring efforts, which include potential game cancellations as a cost-cutting measure.

Despite the challenging global economic conditions that have impacted the gaming industry, Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors attributes the company's recent restructuring to this slowdown. However, Embracer Group has managed to achieve remarkable success, with its revenue doubling to a record-breaking $3.24 billion in the past fiscal year. This achievement has solidified Embracer Group's position as one of the top 20 game publishers worldwide.

In addition to its impressive financial performance, Embracer Group has also expanded its portfolio through a series of strategic acquisitions. Notably, the company has obtained the intellectual property rights to renowned franchises such as Lord of the Rings, Borderlands, Saints Row, and Tomb Raider, among others. As a result, Embracer Group now boasts a total of 896 intellectual properties, as stated in its latest report.

While the ongoing restructuring may lead to the closure of certain projects and studios, Embracer Group remains committed to its decentralized corporate structure. This approach grants its subsidiaries the freedom to pursue creative endeavors while maintaining financial responsibility.

Embracer Group's aggressive reinvestment phase is nearing completion, resulting in significant profits. In 2022, the company recorded a staggering $240 million in profit, surpassing its previous record from two years ago by more than four times. With numerous ongoing projects at Crystal Dynamics and its 11 other operating groups, it is highly anticipated that some of these titles will be released in the near future.
