Introducing Shaw
At the start of Starfield, players will have the opportunity to interact with the diverse members of Constellation. As a matter of fact, a number of the initial story quests will require players to collaborate with characters whom they can later enlist. Sam Coe serves as a prime example of this.
Sam is in charge of an expedition and is seeking assistance. He has discovered a possible clue regarding another artifact's location near Akila City. However, the expedition quickly deviates from the expected routine. Starfield players embarking on the main quest "The Empty Nest" can anticipate the following encounters. As a precaution, players must be wary of spoilers in this walkthrough.
Speak With Sam
Travel to Akila City
The first task to embark on this quest requires paying a visit to the Lodge where you will have the opportunity to converse with Sam Coe. Find him in a secluded room on the left-hand side, adjacent to where the valuable artifacts are displayed. Upon exchanging greetings, Sam reveals a potential lead on an additional artifact hidden somewhere within Akila City. Prior to embarking on this new adventure, ensure that you adequately replenish your supplies and consider selling any surplus items you may possess. To proceed with the quest, players must either fly or utilize the fast travel option to reach Cheyenne. Once inside the system, a thorough scan will be conducted to detect any contraband. Upon passing the inspection, proceed to activate the scanner and maneuver the ship to a safe landing in Akila City. Disembark from the vessel and approach Sam to further advance the quest. It is here that he imparts additional information to players regarding the possible whereabouts of the coveted Artifact.
After conversing with Sam, proceed towards the GalBank Vault using the designated blue waypoint. During the journey, players will encounter a security guard who will caution them to steer clear of the GalBank due to an ongoing situation. Currently, a robbery is taking place at the bank, with hostages being held by the leader of the heist. The perpetrator is demanding to communicate with someone unrelated to both the city and the guards.
Negotiate with the Leader of the Bank Robbers
Daniel initially reluctant to engage with a stranger, but warms up after Sam vouches for the individual. Once the conversation with Daniel concludes, proceed past the barricade and make your way towards the bank entrance. Locate the terminal on the left side of the door to initiate a conversation with the leader of the bank robbers.
Players will have the chance to convince the leader, but if they are unsuccessful, they can inquire about their demands. If players fail to persuade the leader initially, they will get another opportunity once they become aware of the demands. If this second attempt is also unsuccessful, the only option at present is to go back to Daniel and explain the situation. If players are unable to convince the bank robbers to surrender, they will be left with no alternative but to confront them head-on.
Direct Approach or Sneak In
At this stage, players have the choice to either approach the front entrance or stealthily infiltrate from the rear. Upon speaking with the bank robbers' leader once more, players will be granted access to the hostages if they comply with the stipulation of being unarmed. It is feasible to persuade the leader to allow armed observation of the hostages, but the level of difficulty is contingent upon the players' Persuasion rank. If this attempt fails, players will have to circumvent to the back and utilize the key to gain the element of surprise over the bank robbers.
There are just six bank robbers present in the building, making it a quick task for players to handle them. Once the situation of the bank robbery has been addressed, players will be rewarded with 3,000 credits by Daniel for a job well done. Afterward, it is necessary to return inside the bank.
Look for the Map
Proceed to the basement and explore the trio of locations indicated by the blue waypoint. Within one of the lockers, an important missive intended for Sam can be discovered alongside an hourglass. Engage in conversation with Sam to acquire further insights pertaining to the individual responsible for the theft of the map. Sam may not be forthcoming initially, but if players can effectively employ Persuasion, he will reveal additional information regarding Jacob's identity.
Regardless of what choice is made, exit the bank and proceed towards the waypoint in order to reach the Coe Estate. Enter the premises to observe a tense conversation occurring between Sam and his father, Jacob. Upon its conclusion, engage in a conversation with Jacob before proceeding to talk to Sam.
There are three methods for players to obtain the map from Jacob. The initial approach involves seeking assistance from Cora. Alternatively, players can choose to distract Jacob themselves while searching for the map, with Sam's help. The third option entails engaging in a conversation with Jacob and attempting to persuade him. Sam would rather exclude his daughter from the situation, but he is willing to involve her if all other alternatives fail.
Upon successfully persuading Jacob, he will provide the key to access the door leading to the map. Proceed by opening the door behind Jacob and retrieving the map. To advance the story, interact with Sam.
Go to the Empty Nest
As Sam examines the map, a new predicament emerges. The artifact is situated deep within the territory controlled by the gang responsible for the bank robbery. Should the players decide to eliminate the bank robbers, it is certain that the gang will not welcome their presence.
When prepared, travel rapidly to the Empty Nest location. Be prepared for a confrontation, as a sizable group of adversaries awaits in this area. Once they have been eliminated, seek out a doorway that grants access to a cave. It is important to have recovered fully before venturing inside, as additional enemies await within the cave.
In the midst of the cavern lies a formidable locked door, protected by an intricate lock mechanism. In the event that players are unable to decipher the lock, an alternative route presents itself – scaling the stacked crates and traversing over the door, as it is merely a gate. Beyond this threshold, a plethora of resource-rich areas await diligent players, so it would be wise to bring along a cutter for efficient mining. Continue venturing deeper into the cave until encountering a dead end, wherein the coveted artifact lies. Retrieve the artifact and subsequently depart from the Empty Nest.
Meet Shaw
After exiting the hideout, Starfield players encounter one last obstacle. Shaw, the gang's leader, expresses her discontent over losing members and the hideout. Players can attempt to convince her, engage in combat, or offer her 4,000 credits as a resolution. Regardless of the chosen approach, a pack of Ashta will soon approach. Players can decide to eliminate them or depart from the scene. Following this, they should return to the Lodge and place the artifact among the others to successfully conclude this primary quest.
