If someone is bitten by the snake, they should call emergency services immediately, the spokesperson advised. The tropical snake prefers warm, dark spaces and it is unlikely that the escaped mamba has ventured out of its owner's home into the cold Dutch winter.

There are three species of green mamba, all originating from different regions in Africa. The municipality spokesperson did not specify which species the missing snake belonged to.

Typically living in trees, this shy snake has a potent venom that can be deadly, though it seldom confronts humans and instead hunts birds, small mammals, and lizards.
