The MONSTERS anime and its corresponding source material both center on characters originally introduced in Oda's renowned One Piece manga series. Notably, the one-shot manga delves into the story of the swordsman Ryuma, who is later mentioned in One Piece as the ancient Wano samurai Shimotsuki Ryuma, renowned for slaying a dragon.
