On Thursday, January 11, 2024, @pewpiece, a well-known leaker of One Piece information on X (formerly Twitter), shared an intriguing piece of Detective Conan artwork created by Eiichiro Oda, the renowned creator and illustrator of One Piece. Oda drew the artwork in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Detective Conan series, also known as Case Closed, which first appeared in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on January 5, 1994 and is still being published. Despite being published in a different magazine by a different publisher, it’s clear that Oda wanted to show his appreciation for this beloved franchise.
Detective Conan’s 30th anniversary celebrated with a sketch from One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda
It is also probable that this originates from the close friendship and professional relationship between Oda and Gosho Aoyama, the creator, author, and illustrator of Detective Conan. The two have participated in several joint interviews, during which they express their mutual respect and admiration for each other's work in their respective flagship series.
The latest
The newest illustration from the One Piece mangaka is a tribute to the 30th anniversary of Aoyama's popular manga series. Aoyama's manga celebrated its 30th anniversary last week, and Oda's sketch is likely being revealed this week due to recent holiday breaks taken by Shueisha and Weekly Shonen Jump. Despite premiering just 3 years apart, both manga series are among the longest currently being serialized. However, the two franchises have diverged in several key aspects, including spinoff manga series.
Oda's series has limited official spinoff manga, while Aoyama's franchise boasts three separate spinoff series. Although one has wrapped up, two are still ongoing, with only one being published concurrently with the mainline series, and the other released during breaks.
However, in other aspects, the franchises are very similar. Aoyama's series has an anime adaptation with well over 1100 episodes aired, while Oda's series is approaching the 1100 episode mark. Both franchises have produced numerous anime films, with Aoyama's series releasing 25 and Oda's releasing 15.
The most recent One Piece anime episode began the Egghead arc, marking the 1089th episode in the series. The manga is also close to reaching the climax of the Egghead arc. Netflix renewed the series' live-action adaptation for a second season in September 2023, but there have been no significant updates since the initial announcement.
Be sure to keep up with all One Piece anime, manga, film and live-action news as 2023 progresses.

Eiichiro Oda's artwork is a testament to his creativity and respect for Gosho Aoyama's work. It's amazing to see how two legendary mangaka can come together and create something truly special.
This crossover is a dream come true for fans of both series. It's a unique opportunity to see our favorite characters from different worlds interact and collaborate. I can't wait to see what other surprises Oda and Aoyama have in store for us in the future.
