Edward Berger set to direct highly anticipated new Jason Bourne film

Deadline has reported that a new Jason Bourne movie is currently being developed, and the director of All Quiet on the Western Front, Edward Berger, is in negotiations to take the helm of this highly anticipated fifth installment in the iconic action-thriller series.

Berger achieved tremendous success with his movie about World War 1, titled All Quiet on the Western Front, which received four Oscars, including the coveted best international feature film award.

Although specific casting information hasn't been disclosed, Deadline initially reported that actor Matt Damon, who has appeared in four out of the five movies, would be given priority consideration for the lead role in the upcoming film.

If the next installment of the franchise is approved, there will be a nearly decade-long gap between the release of the last film in 2016 and the upcoming one. The initial movie, which debuted in 2002, holds a special place in the hearts of action enthusiasts as a cult classic.

In the last twenty years, the franchise has garnered a staggering 1.6 billion dollars in box office revenue. The 2012 film, The Bourne Legacy, stands out as the only installment in the franchise without Damon as the lead, with Jeremy Renner assuming the role instead.

The Jason Bourne film series is adapted from Robert Ludlum's book series of the same name. This action-thriller franchise consists of five films and even features a spin-off TV series.
