The Dune director has disclosed that the third film's script is almost finished, despite not yet receiving official approval. Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, Dune: Part Two, is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2024.
Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) will lead the charge alongside Chani (played by Zendaya) and her followers on the arid planet Arrakis to defeat House Harkonnen in the upcoming film.
Following the release of the first film in 2021, fans of Dune have eagerly anticipated this sequel. Director Villeneuve has hinted at a third film in the works, suggesting there may not be a long wait for the continuation of the series.

Villeneuve is ready to film Dune 3 after a quick break
At a press conference in South Korea, Villeneuve announced his plans to shoot a third film, Dune Messiah, as the script is nearly complete. "Dune Messiah is almost finished, but not quite there yet. It will take some time," Villeneuve explained. "There's a desire to make a third movie...It would be a logical next step for me."
The director emphasized that he wouldn’t immediately start working on a third Dune film, explaining, "I'm not sure when I'll return to Arrakis. I might take a break first to clear my head. For my own well-being, I might work on something else in between, but my ultimate goal is to revisit this beloved planet one last time."
Despite Villeneuve's intention to take a break from the desert planet's conflicts, he is eagerly anticipating the release of Dune: Part Two, which he believes is even better than the first installment.
Villeneuve expressed, "In my opinion, this film surpasses the first part. The characters' relationships are more profound. I aimed for an intensity and quality of emotions that I couldn't achieve with 'Part One' but did with 'Part Two.' While it's not perfect, I'm much happier with 'Part Two' than 'Part One.' I'm eager to share it with the fans and moviegoers."
Dune: Part Two has a tough act to follow, given that Dune, despite being delayed by the global shutdown, still grossed over $400 million at the box office.
Dune: Part Two is set to hit theaters on March 15, 2024. You can find out more about the movie here.

As an enthusiastic fan of the Dune franchise, I am thrilled to hear that director Denis Villeneuve is already working on the script for the third film, Dune Messiah. Despite not yet receiving the green light from the studio, Villeneuve's dedication to continuing the saga is truly commendable. The first film, released in 2021, was a cinematic masterpiece that left fans eagerly anticipating the sequel. The news of a potential third film only adds to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the franchise.
Villeneuve's comments about Dune: Part Two surpassing the first part in terms of character relationships and emotional intensity have me even more excited. The first film was visually stunning and captured the essence of Frank Herbert's novel beautifully. However, if the sequel manages to delve deeper into the characters' relationships and evoke stronger emotions, it has the potential to be an even more powerful and memorable cinematic experience. I can't wait to see how Villeneuve brings the story of Paul Atreides and his journey on the desert planet Arrakis to life once again.
