Driver apprehended following vehicle collision at Atlanta FBI field office

An individual drove their vehicle into the entry gate at the Atlanta FBI field office in an attempt to access the facility, as reported by FBI Atlanta representative Tony Thomas.

An attempt to gain entry to the Atlanta FBI field office was made by a car that rammed into the entry gate, as reported by FBI Atlanta spokesperson Tony Thomas. The incident occurred shortly after noon, as mentioned by FBI Atlanta spokesperson Jenna Sellitto.

The suspect, who has not been named, was apprehended after exiting the vehicle on foot. They have been taken to a hospital for assessment and are currently in the custody of DeKalb County police, as confirmed by a federal law enforcement official.

The individual, who was not connected to the facility, tried to enter through the front gate following an employee, according to FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis during a press briefing on Monday afternoon.

"He attempted to enter the gate, but our security measures stopped him from gaining access," Ellis mentioned. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

Following that, bomb technicians inspected and cleared the vehicle, as confirmed by a federal law enforcement official.

When the suspect was taken into custody, he didn’t say anything, a law enforcement official told CNN.

No FBI personnel were hurt in the incident, according to Thomas.

The FBI is opening a case into the incident and told CNN there is currently no clear motive.

“(At) this time we are looking at both state and federal charges,” Ellis said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
