Dramatic Injury Time Triumph: Adam Idah's Sensational Winner Powers Norwich City to a Thrilling Comeback Victory over Hull City

Norwich City secure a thrilling victory in their opening Sky Bet Championship game against Hull City, with substitute Adam Idah's 96th-minute winner completing a remarkable comeback at Carrow Road

Norwich kicked off the new Sky Bet Championship season with a victorious start as substitute Adam Idah's dramatic added-time goal secured a 2-1 win against Hull at Carrow Road. The Republic of Ireland player displayed his impeccable timing, finding himself perfectly positioned amidst a chaotic goalmouth scramble to effortlessly guide the ball into the net, ultimately deciding an exhilarating match.

Hull opened the scoring in the first half against the flow of the game, as Liam Delap scored a well-executed goal on his debut. However, just before halftime, Norwich equalized with an impressive strike from their young player Jonathan Rowe, marking his first goal for the team.

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, Norwich began the match with vigor. Only 40 seconds into the game, Gabriel Sara narrowly missed with a promising attempt, followed by Rowe's low shot from a distance brushing the outside of the post.

But it was the visitors who got their noses in front with their first effort of the match in the 17th minute as some poor home defending was ruthlessly punished by Delap.

The Manchester City striker, who is currently on loan, dispossessed Shane Duffy at a distance of approximately 30 yards. He then overpowered Ben Gibson and delivered a powerful finish into the top corner of the goal. Following this, Angus Gunn displayed his agility by denying Ozan Tufan, who had been fortunate enough to receive the ball in the penalty area.

However, aside from that, Norwich dominated the first half. Duffy came close to scoring with a header that hit the crossbar, Stacey missed a great opportunity by firing over the goal, and Ingram made an impressive save to deny Sargent's header. Nonetheless, the hosts never gave up and their persistence paid off in stoppage time with a spectacular goal.

Dimi Giannoulis swiftly delivered a pass to Rowe in the center, who skillfully progressed towards the edge of the penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable shot beyond Ingram, giving the half-time scoreline a more deserved equilibrium.

The second half unfolded in a similar fashion, with Norwich maintaining dominance. However, the opposing team came perilously close to reclaiming the lead just after the 60th minute when Delap burst through the middle and unleashed a shot that seemed destined for the top corner, only to be expertly tipped over by Gunn.

As the game entered the final quarter, the Norwich threat seemed to be fading despite Duffy's missed opportunity with a free header at the 82-minute mark.

It appeared that the hosts would have to accept a draw, but in the final moments of added time, they managed to secure a valuable victory.

The managers

Norwich's David Wagner:

We secured the winning goal in the final moments, and I believe it was a well-deserved victory. Our performance in the first half was exceptional, with numerous opportunities created. Although our intensity dropped in the second half, we persisted and ultimately achieved our reward. The supporters may have felt frustrated in the first half due to our inability to convert chances, but their unwavering belief resonated with the players, who kept their faith as well.

Admittedly, the goal we conceded was subpar, but the players responded effectively, and I am thrilled with our overall gameplay. Overcoming a 1-0 deficit to claim all three points is a source of great satisfaction for everyone. This accomplishment builds upon the positive aspects observed during pre-season, signifying another step in the right direction.

Hull assistant Justin Walker expressed frustration with the game management towards the end. There was supposed to be five minutes of added time, but the ball was played into a neutral area after five minutes and 15 seconds. This was the moment when the final whistle should have been blown, yet it wasn't. Furthermore, if the officials were uncertain about the offside call, the goal shouldn't have been allowed. Additionally, there were concerns about the corner that resulted in the goal, as the ball had already gone out.

Many events occurred towards the end, but ultimately, our opinion is that the game should have concluded by that point. Despite acknowledging areas for improvement, we should focus on the various positives gleaned from the game rather than solely discussing the events of added time.
