Virgin River Season 6 has not premiered yet, and some fans are already speculating about the show's future beyond a potential Season 7.

Devoted followers of the popular Netflix series Virgin River have endured a lengthy hiatus in anticipation of new episodes. The release of the second half of Season 5 was extended over the Christmas season, and the confirmed sixth season does not have a set release date.

Based on the beloved book series, the show takes a loose inspiration from the original storyline. Still, there are plenty of new narratives to dive into. However, some fans are speculating that Virgin River may not even reach a Season 7, even with the sixth installment not yet aired.

Fans don’t think Virgin River will “make it” to Season 7

According to some Virgin River fans on Reddit, the show might not even “make it” to Season 7 – even before Season 6 has aired.

The show follows a nurse practitioner who moves from Los Angeles to a remote Northern California town and is surprised by what – and who – she finds.

"Season 6 filming is set to begin soon, with rumors suggesting it may start in early February," wrote Reddit user Doggo0729 on a thread. "I hope the writers have used this break to dive into the books, analyze Mel and Jack's dynamics, bring in new intimacy coordinators, and most importantly, take into account feedback from fans on social media regarding Season 5. I hope they've listened to the fans and made necessary adjustments to the story if needed."

"If the writers don't step up their game, this show might not see a Season 7," the post continues. "Fans worldwide have been let down by not only the storylines but also the writers' lack of consideration for the dedicated fanbase. I hope the writers focus on Jack and Mel's relationship and their journey as a couple this season. Most importantly, I hope they stop making them seem like an elderly couple. I am tired of watching them peck each other on the lips like little birdies. If Jack is not pulling Mel's hair and they're not both gasping for air, then I don't want it!"

Mel and Jack’s relationship has faced criticism from fans before, with Mel recently being labeled as one of the most "annoying" characters on the show. According to a new showrunner, the focus will shift back to Mel and Jack’s relationship, particularly their journey to parenthood. A fan also mentioned that Preacher’s predicament will be resolved, and both Doc and Hope will return to good health. The showrunner confirmed that some changes are being made based on viewer reactions to Season 5, but a complete overhaul is not in the plans as half of Season 6 was already written before the writer's and actor's strikes.

New storylines for Virgin River Season 6 are yet to be set in stone – although the cliffhangers from Season 5 Part 2 can tell us a lot about what we’re likely to expect.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan of Virgin River, I am eagerly awaiting the release of Season 6 and am excited to see how the show will continue to unfold. I have been a fan of the show since its inception and have enjoyed watching the characters develop and the storylines progress. I am particularly interested in seeing how Mel and Jack's relationship will evolve and how they will navigate the challenges of parenthood. I am also curious to see how Preacher's predicament will be resolved and how Doc and Hope will recover from their health issues.

However, I share some of the concerns expressed by other fans regarding the show's future beyond Season 7. I believe that the writers need to step up their game and address some of the criticisms that have been leveled at the show, such as the lack of intimacy between Mel and Jack and the repetitive storylines. I hope that the writers will take into account the feedback from fans and make necessary adjustments to the story to ensure that the show remains engaging and captivating. Overall, I am optimistic about the future of Virgin River and am excited to see what Season 6 and beyond will bring.
