Beloved Doctor Who actor David Tennant has hinted at the exciting surprises in store for fans in his anticipated return for the series' 60th anniversary. These upcoming episodes promise a unique and unprecedented experience unlike anything viewers have witnessed before.
Among all the Doctors, David Tennant appears to have the strongest connection to both the role and the fan base. Though he is most recognized for his portrayal of the 10th Doctor, Tennant is set to return as an entirely new Doctor in the upcoming 60th anniversary episodes of Doctor Who. During an interview with Empire Magazine, Tennant gave a hint about what fans can anticipate from these episodes. He disclosed that they will be entirely unique and diverge from the typical formula that the community has grown accustomed to throughout the franchise's long history.
Tennant expressed his astonishment upon discovering the foundation of the initial script, followed by his reading of the second script, which stands out as a unique Doctor Who episode. "These new specials unleash Russell's creative freedom...It feels as though the band has reunited for a final spectacular performance," Tennant commented.
In the later part of the interview, Tennant further discussed his role reprisal, clarifying that he will be playing the role of Doctor number 14 rather than Doctor number 10, as he has done before.
"That was the initial fascinating twist that Russell introduced. Instead of being Doctor No. 10 once again, I will be Doctor No. 14. The reason behind the similarity between the 14th and 10th Doctors will be revealed in due time."
The highly anticipated premiere of Doctor Who's fourteenth season is scheduled for Christmas Day in 2023, following Jodie Whittaker's historic tenure as the first female Doctor.
Fans can look forward to an exciting treat as part of the 60th anniversary specials, with the return of David Tennant and the inclusion of another beloved British icon, Catherine Tate. These special episodes are expected to be released in November 2023, a month before the season premiere.
