Former Doctor Who actor Sophie Aldred admits to feeling a bit envious of Bonnie Langford, who is set to make a return as a classic Doctor Who companion. Aldred played the role of Ace alongside Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor from 1987-1989. Recently, McCoy and Aldred reunited for Jodie Whittaker's final episode in season 13. This provided some closure for Aldred, who is excited to see Langford's upcoming appearance in season 14. Aldred jokingly expressed jealousy when she saw a picture of Langford on a Vesper, a vehicle she never had the chance to ride on the show. However, she also expressed her happiness for Langford's upcoming time on the series.

And of course, Bonnie Langford! I couldn't help but feel a wave of jealousy as I texted her expressing my envy. Then, I stumbled upon a picture of her on a Vesper, a ride I never had the chance to experience. It just didn't seem fair to me.

Bonnie Langford Returns To Doctor Who After Three Decades

Langford made her debut in Doctor Who in 1986, introducing audiences to the joyful companion character Melanie Bush. Melanie accompanied both the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and the Seventh Doctor (McCoy). There was a brief overlap between Aldred and Langford in 1987, as Ace transitioned to becoming the main companion for McCoy's Time Lord. The two also appeared together in the episode "The Power of the Doctor."

Following her cameo in Doctor Who season 13, Langford will continue her return as Melanie in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, as well as during Ncuti Gatwa's tenure as the Fifteenth Doctor. While she had limited screen time in season 13, Langford's role as a companion is expected to be more prominent in the fourteenth season. Melanie will not be the only companion to the Fifteenth Doctor, as Doctor Who season 14 will introduce a new companion named Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson.

Doctor Who may have left behind Aldred, but retaining Langford on the show is an effort to engage loyal fans. Russell T. Davies, the returning showrunner, is well aware of this and has invited David Tennant and Catherine Tate to reprise their roles as the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble. By including Langford as Melanie in Doctor Who season 14, the series aims to smoothly bridge the gap between the past and the present, offering fans the nostalgia they desire.
