Novak Djokovic, the 36-year-old Serbian tennis champion, aims to follow in the footsteps of Tom Brady and continue playing well into his 40s With no plans of retiring anytime soon, Djokovic aspires to emulate the enduring career of the American football legend

Novak Djokovic has no intention of retiring from tennis anytime soon. The 36-year-old Serbian tennis star is looking to follow in the footsteps of American football legend Tom Brady, who played in the NFL for 23 seasons and won seven Super Bowls before retiring at the age of 45 earlier this year.

Djokovic, the top-ranked player in the world, is gearing up for his 22nd professional season with an exhibition match against Carlos Alcaraz in Riyadh. He expressed admiration for Tom Brady, citing him as a prime example of a champion with a remarkable career and lasting success.

He has dedicated countless hours and a great deal of effort to self-care and recovery, ensuring that every aspect of his physical and mental well-being is taken care of for a successful, enduring career.

Having personally witnessed his dedication, I've learned a great deal from his example. I hope to emulate his success and have a career that lasts well into my 40s and beyond.

Brady was present in Djokovic's box at Roland Garros in June to witness his friend's victory in the French Open, which was one of three Grand Slam titles the Serbian secured in 2023, along with the Australian and U.S. Open championships.

"I'm feeling fantastic physically at the moment and I've been consistently playing top-notch tennis," Djokovic remarked.

"2023 was one of the best seasons Ive had in my life and why stop while youre still playing great? So Ill keep going and take (each) year, one by one, and see how far I go."

Alcaraz triumphed over the Serbian in an intense five-set match to claim the coveted Wimbledon Grand Slam title, and Djokovic expressed support for the rise of the 20-year-old Spaniard, particularly with the retirement of Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal approaching his final season.

"The end of our era is approaching, but with the emergence of Alcaraz, it's a great thing. I'm really happy that I had four very good matches with him this year," Djokovic expressed. "Each match garnered a lot of attention and produced many great highlights. It's good for our sport."

Djokovic will make his final preparations for a tilt at an 11th Australian Open title by representing his country in the United Cup in Perth and Sydney in the first week of the new year.
