MangaDive, a unique blend of art exhibition, museum, and movie, has recently opened its doors in the bustling heart of Tokyo, Shinjuku. Running from the end of July to the end of August, MangaDive offers a fresh and innovative way for people to immerse themselves in the world of manga. Reservations can be conveniently made online, while walk-ins are also welcome, provided there is available space. With each exhilarating experience lasting approximately thirty minutes, multiple showings are held daily to accommodate visitors.

At the core of MangaDive lies the cutting-edge technology of projection mapping, which breathes life into the captivating world of manga. In a remarkable 360-degree cinema setting, the action unfolds not only on the walls but also on the floor, offering a truly transformative encounter. By cleverly animating scenes from renowned manga, MangaDive preserves their original manga style, including the iconic black and white tones and the distinctive artistry of the manga itself, rather than the anime adaptation.

While MangaDive does not include spoken dialogue, it compensates with an abundance of music and sound effects that enhance the manga's overall experience. To remain faithful to the original source material, all dialogue is conveyed through speech bubbles. Unfortunately, these speech bubbles are exclusively in Japanese, posing a challenge for international fans with limited knowledge of the language. However, if you are already familiar with the manga, you can still enjoy the scenes without having to read the unfolding story.

Apart from the dialogue boxes, MangaDive is incredibly accessible for tourists. The website offers an English version, allowing reservations to be made in English. All rules are also provided in English before entry, and English signs are present for all special merchandise. MangaDive initially showcased Chainsaw Man and Dandadan. Later in August, Spy x Family was added to the lineup. Each story has a ten-minute show that brings a different part of the manga to life on the 360-degree screen. Spy x Family presented the "Bond Arc," detailing the tale of how the dog Bond became part of the Forger family. Chainsaw Man featured an epic battle titled "Chainsaw Man vs. Samurai Sword." Lastly, Dandadan compiled the introduction of the main characters along with their most memorable moments in the story.

MangaDive issued a cautionary statement before granting access, notifying individuals that certain content may be unsettling, and assured viewers that they could raise their hand at any moment to be escorted away if necessary. This warning proved substantial, as the material encompassing Chainsaw Man and Dandadan contained frequent violence and occasionally evoked fear in individuals lacking fortitude. MangaDive is not suitable for minors or individuals who possess sensitivity towards darkness, loud noises, or graphic and gruesome depictions.

After the show concludes, a small shop offers exclusive merchandise from each of the three featured stories. This includes special T-shirts, tote bags, smaller keychains, and stickers. Notably, there are incredible acrylic stands displaying manga panels. These stands can be scanned with your phone, activating AR technology and bringing a 3D video of that part of the MangaDive show to life in your own home. Moreover, each ticket includes an AR activated coaster that uses the same technology to animate a character on your phone.

Tickets for MangaDive cost ¥‎1600 per person ($11 USD), which is nearly equivalent to a movie ticket in Japan. However, despite being only 30 minutes long, the show offers a much more distinctive experience compared to a typical movie theater. Manga fans, as well as fans of any of the featured anime, will find MangaDive to be an entirely new and enjoyable activity.
