Jackbox Party Pack 10 celebrates the franchise's impressive growth over the years, but Jackbox Games isn't resting on its laurels. The new Pack introduces exciting elements like the sequel Tee KO 2 and the recurring trivia game TimeJinx, while also daring to try something new. Dodo Re Mi is the franchise's first music-rhythm game and embraces its signature zaniness.
In Dodo Re Mi, players use their phones/controllers as instruments and take on the role of birds making wild noises, all while avoiding being eaten by a carnivorous plant. After each song, a playback reveals how well everyone performed. Unlike other traditional Jackbox Party Pack games, Dodo Re Mi allows players to end the game after one or more songs, abandoning the typical round structure. The game's unconventional nature is evident. Game Rant recently spoke with Jackbox Games developers, including Dodo Re Mi director Brooke Breit, who shared her unique experience working on the game compared to previous projects like Job, Job and Roomerang, which she also directed while at Jackbox Party Pack 5.
To create the music for Dodo Re Mi, the audio team from Jackbox Games held extensive recording sessions at Central Michigan University. One instrument that caught Breit's attention was the contrabassoon. Music enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate the diverse range of instruments in the game, including guitars and drums. During our conversation, Breit mentioned a few more unique sounds and "instruments" that fans can look forward to.
For instance, the Dodo Re Mi reveal trailer showcased an instrument that mimics cat noises, known as Taz the Cat. Alongside fun and simple instruments like kazoos, players can also utilize a "Lip Flipper." This peculiar instrument produces a bubbling sound when one rubs their index finger up and down their lips. Additionally, somewhere in Dodo Re Mi, there is a sound effect generated by earwax. The actual sound remains a mystery, leaving room for comedic and creepy imagination. As described by Breit,

The intention is for it to be exceptionally comical and highly engaging...Moreover, besides delving into the realm of music, we experimented with utilizing earwax to create sound effects, which proved to be remarkably fascinating and surprisingly well-liked among our audience.Constant Screaming

Players diving into Dodo Re Mi have the freedom to choose an instrument based on its sound, the experience of a group of playing Kazoos, or simply for the funny and amusing names, such as Lip Flipper. This may seem unusual, but it aligns perfectly with Jackbox Games' unconventional approach. Breit, a representative from the company, expressed that their creative choices are guided by the simple question, "why not?" This mindset sets the tone for the lighthearted and whimsical expectations of fans for Dodo Re Mi and all the other games that will be included in Jackbox Party Pack 10. The highly anticipated Jackbox Party Pack 10 is scheduled to be released across all major platforms in the fall of 2023.
