The first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 2 introduce 13 new book characters, indicating that Prime Video's adaptation remains relatively faithful to the source material. The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series based on the books by Robert Jordan, and it encompasses a vast world and a rich lore with diverse cultures. It is truly a monumental project.
13 Verin Mathwin
The Wheel of Time has faced challenges in remaining faithful to Jordan's 14-volume series, but it has succeeded in incorporating a multitude of book characters. This is commendable given that numerous storylines from the Wheel of Time books are now unlikely to materialize due to alterations made in season 1. Considering the vast number of characters in Jordan's series, it is impracticable to include them all. Nevertheless, The Wheel of Time strives to showcase as many characters as possible. Season 2 has already commenced expanding the world introduced in season 1, introducing a staggering 13 new characters in the first three episodes alone.
Meet Verin Mathwin, a member of the Brown Ajah and an esteemed Aes Sedai. Renowned for her unmatched intellect and vast knowledge, Verin plays a pivotal role throughout Jordan's epic Wheel of Time series. It is encouraging to see her early presence in The Wheel of Time season 2, as she aligns herself with Moiraine. Notably, Verin is one of the select few who holds the knowledge that Rand al'Thor is indeed the legendary Dragon Reborn.
12 Elayne Trakand
11 Ingtar Shinowa
Elayne Trakand, the daughter-heir of Andor, and a novice at the White Tower in this stage of The Wheel of Time series, possesses considerable channeling ability. Although she is not as powerful as Egwene or Nynaeve, Elayne is regarded as one of the most formidable channelers in centuries. Throughout the series, she becomes one of Rand al'Thor's romantic interests and eventually bears his children following the Last Battle. Following her mother Morgase's forced exile and apparent demise at the hands of one of the Forsaken, Elayne ultimately ascends to the position of Queen of Andor, solidifying her reign at the conclusion of the series.Ingtar Shinowa, a Shienaran nobleman, is a prominent member of Lord Agelmar's army in the Wheel of Time books. In the show, Ingtar embarks on a quest alongside Rand, Perrin, and Mat to seek the Horn of Valere. However, the TV adaptation has introduced completely new storylines for Rand and Mat. Ingtar's character is multifaceted, and his actions in The Wheel of Time season 2 are bound to astonish some viewers.
10 Tomas
Tomas, the Warder to Verin Mathwin, displays an intriguing dynamic in Jordan's books. Occasionally, he is intentionally separated from Verin, remaining behind while she accompanies Rand, Perrin, and Mat in their pursuit of the Horn of Valere. However, Tomas eventually reunites with her and plays a pivotal role in defending Perrin against the aggressive onslaught of the Children of the Light and trollocs that descend upon the Two Rivers. Fueled by the powerful bond he shares with his Warder Aes Sedai, Tomas emerges as an exceptional fighter, unwaveringly loyal to Verin.
9 Sheriam Bayanar
Also joining The Wheel of Time season 2 is Sheriam Bayanar. She holds the position of Mistress of Novices at the White Tower and is a member of the Blue Ajah. In The Wheel of Time books, Sheriam aligns herself with the rebels following the division in the White Tower. Over time, she ascends to the esteemed role of Keeper of the Chronicles. As an instructor, she is known for her strict but just approach, not hesitating to discipline her novices severely when she deems it necessary. Sheriam hails from Saldea, one of the Borderland nations located on the brink of the Blight.
8 Elyas Machera
7 Adeleas Namelle
Elyas Machera, like Perrin Aybara, is a wolfbrother who possesses the extraordinary ability to communicate with wolves through telepathy. In addition to this, both Elyas and Perrin possess remarkable senses, particularly when it comes to scent detection. Elyas takes on the role of a mentor for Perrin, guiding him on how to harness this unique gift without losing himself to the wolf within. With his exceptional sense of smell, Elyas excels as a tracker and, like other wolfbrothers, he can enter Tel'aran'rhiod, the realm of dreams. As the Wheel of Time series progresses, Elyas emerges as a significant figure, fighting alongside the wolves during the climactic Last Battle.
Adeleas Namelle, a member of the Brown Ajah, is an Aes Sedai. While in the books her sister is Vandene, the show adaptation of The Wheel of Time has made her Verin's sister. Interestingly, Adeleas is anticipated to have a more prominent role in the show than she does in the original story. In the novels, she joins Elayne and Nynaeve on their quest to locate the Bowl of the Winds. Though she lacks the formidable abilities of some Aes Sedai, as evidenced by her inability to Travel, Adeleas does play a significant part in the books for a certain duration.
6 Bayle Domon
Bayle Domon, a trader and the captain of the river boat Spray, is introduced in The Wheel of Time season 2. Hailing from Illian, he becomes intricately involved in the main characters' narratives on multiple occasions. In The Eye of the World, he comes to Rand's rescue from Shadar Logoth, offering him passage away from the city on his boat. Subsequently, he becomes entangled with Mat and the Seanchan, eventually marrying an ex-Seanchan Naval Captain.
5 Selene
Whilst Selene's introduction in The Wheel of Time season 2 diverges from her depiction in the books, she still makes an appearance. Selene, the enigmatic woman in The Wheel of Time season 2, secretly belongs to the group known as the Forsaken and was once entangled in a love affair with Lews Therin Tealamon during the Age of Legends. With the understanding that Rand embodies the reincarnated essence of Lews Therin, she becomes fixated on him, attempting to persuade him to side with her. In the Wheel of Time novels, Rand encounters Selene in an alternate realm after she transports him through a portal stone while he slumbers. As a pivotal character, it is advisable for the show to introduce her early on, despite the divergence from the source material.
4 Masema Dagar
Masema Dagar, a Shienaran soldier, transitions into the deranged Prophet of the Dragon, worshipping Rand only after witnessing his battle with Ishamael above Falme. As the Prophet, Masema amasses a formidable army that ravages the continent, slaughtering those who refuse allegiance to the Dragon. Eventually, Rand dispatches Perrin to manage the escalating situation caused by Masema's cult-like following, but this action is taken only after the Prophet has gathered a massive following.
3 High Lady Suroth
High Lady Suroth is a prominent member of the nefarious Seanchan nobility in The Wheel of Time. Later exposed as a dark friend, she belongs to The Blood, the most esteemed tier of Seanchan aristocracy. She seizes Egwene al'Vere, subjecting her to the unbearable a'dam collar and enslaving her as a damane. Notorious for her sadistic tendencies, Suroth ascends to become the highest-ranking Seanchan on the continent following the demise of High Lord Turak. However, her reign is short-lived with the arrival of Tuon.
2 Alwhin
Introduced in The Wheel of Time season 2, Alwhin is a Seanchan woman who serves as so'jhin to High Lady Suroth. Despite being a relatively minor character, she remains true to her portrayal in the Wheel of Time books. In a significant turn of events, she stumbles upon two Sul'dam who are equipped with a'dam collars, proving that Sul'dam can indeed channel the One Power. This groundbreaking discovery creates a seismic impact within the Seanchan society. However, Alwhin chooses to confide in only Suroth, who decides to keep this revelation a closely guarded secret.
1 Anvaere Damodred
Anvaere Damodred, a noblewoman from Cairhien and sister to Moiraine, plays a minor role in the books but has a more significant presence in The Wheel of Time season 2. It will be fascinating to see how the show develops her character considering the expansion already given to her in the series.
