In an exciting new development, World of Warcraft players can expect to encounter some familiar faces from the game's history in the upcoming Dragonflight update. However, these characters will be from alternate realities of Azeroth, adding an intriguing twist to the game's narrative. Currently in the works, Patch 10.1.5, Fractures in Time, is being developed by Dragonflight. While a release date has not yet been announced, players can already enjoy some of the new features on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm, including the Time Rift repeatable content set to arrive in Eon's Fringe in Thaldraszus.
Players will have the opportunity to embark on quests that transport them to various timelines, some of which depict a different outcome for World of Warcraft's history. Datamining of the latest PTR builds has revealed several NPCs that players can expect to encounter in these Time Rifts. For example, Vereesa Windrunner assumes the role of Banshee Queen instead of her sister Sylvanas, while Uther the Lightbringer appears as a Death Knight named the Deathbringer. These characters exist in a version of Azeroth called Azmourne, which is controlled by the Undead Scourge.
Aside from Azmourne, there are six other alternate realities that players can explore. While Dragonflight won't delve deeply into the lore of these different versions of World of Warcraft characters like Varian Wrynn, Cho'gall, and Freya, it will still be exciting to experience a glimpse of what could have been.
Players can also expect to delve into alternative versions of World of Warcraft's history, including Azewrath, where the Burning Legion successfully conquered Azeroth, Azmerloth, a continuation of the comical Murloc-filled world from the Thaldraszus story in Dragonflight, and A.Z.E.R.O.T.H., a world where King Mechagon's campaign to reverse the Curse of Flesh spread globally. Additionally, players can explore Azq'roth, where the Old Gods reign supreme and the Black Empire has been resurrected, Ulderoth, which has been fully taken over by Planetary Overseer Freya on behalf of the Titans, and The Warlands, an Azeroth torn apart by an ongoing battle between the Great Glorious Alliance and the Blood Horde–complete with eye patches for all.
The upcoming Patch 10.1.5 for World of Warcraft is a highly anticipated content update, especially for fans of time travel. The megadungeon called the Dawn of the Infinite will showcase a fierce battle between the Bronze and Infinite Dragonflights, with epic boss fights against some of the most significant characters in the game's history. For those who are interested in exploring the lore of World of Warcraft, this update is a must-see and will be available in the coming months. World of Warcraft is currently available on PC.
