Alfonso Ribeiro and his family made a big lifestyle change after one of his sons faced a health issue.
"We lead a completely non-toxic lifestyle, avoiding the consumption of sugar, gluten, corn, dairy, oats, or anything that causes inflammation," Ribeiro, aged 52, disclosed to host Tamron Hall on her self-titled talk show, aired on Monday, October 2.
Alfonso and his wife Angela Ribeiro, who got married in October 2012, share three children: Alfonso Jr. (AJ), aged 9, Anders, aged 8, and Ava, aged 4. The Dancing With the Stars host is also the father of Sienna, aged 20, whom he had with his ex-wife Robin Stapler in 2002.
Alfonso didn't specify which of his children inspired the new dietary approach. However, he mentioned that his family adopted the habit eight years ago when they were searching for food suitable for their child. This change has greatly improved their lives.
"It's astonishing! We put high-quality fuel in our cars, but we neglect our bodies by consuming low-quality food. It's no wonder there are numerous cases of cancer and other health issues. People constantly suffer from pain. However, after learning to eat properly, I am no longer in pain," he expressed. "My life is now virtually pain-free because nothing is slowing me down, right?"
Altered eating habits haven't deprived the Riberio family of indulging in sweet treats. Alfonso proudly shared that Angela, 42, skillfully prepares desserts that not only adhere to their dietary restrictions but surpass the taste and quality of conventional alternatives.
My wife's desserts are simply the best. In fact, her cakes are so amazing that we are considering creating a cookbook to showcase her skills. When my kids attend birthday parties, they always prefer my wife's cupcakes over what the other kids are eating. Recently, at a party we hosted, everyone couldn't get enough of her cake and even requested more of it instead of the other option.
Not only is my wife skilled in making cakes, but she can also create delectable gluten-free and vegan treats like cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pies. What's even more impressive is that she manages to make these treats without using sugar and dairy. Instead, our family relies on honey or coconut sugar as a substitute for these delightful indulgences.
Earlier this year, Alfonso's youngest daughter, Ava, had a health scare of her own. In May, the toddler fell off her scooter, resulting in burns and bruises that required emergency surgery. Unfortunately, this incident happened just days before her fourth birthday.
Alfonso took to Instagram to express his gratitude to @kareskinmd for their immediate assistance and procedure, aiming to minimize any scarring. He also commended his brave baby girl for her courage throughout the surgery.
