Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus have been discreet about their family life, but they have occasionally revealed their daughter, Nova, to the public. In May 2018, it was confirmed that the couple, who got engaged in 2021, were expecting their first child together. This came two years after they appeared in the film Sky. Their daughter was born in November of that year. It's worth mentioning that Reedus also has a son named Mingus, born in October 1999, from his previous relationship with Helena Christensen.
Kruger admitted that she did not have any desire to become a parent when she first entered motherhood. In a January 2019 interview with Net-A-Porter, she explained that she believed she was too self-centered. However, as she reached the age of 33, she began to reconsider and realized she might want to have a child. Yet, she emphasized the importance of waiting for the right partner to come along.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor explained that he asked Nova to fetch his boot from the closet, secretly concealing the ring inside.
When Reedus finally had the jewelry in hand, an unexpected reaction ensued from the couple's toddler. "And then I proposed, and she burst into tears, and then Nova began crying—everyone started crying. It was like a flood of emotions," he explained. "And then Nova asked, 'Why are we crying?'
