The return of the Lizard League in Invincible Season 2 brings up an important question: who are these reptile-themed supervillains and how do they fit into the show's storyline? This question is particularly relevant as Invincible's roster of heroes and villains has expanded even further this season. In addition to the return of Mark Grayson / Invincible and the core cast from Season 1, Season 2 introduces a host of new characters, such as Angstrom Levy, Bulletproof, and Shapesmith.
In its second season, Invincible expands on its original lore by incorporating key concepts from the Image Comics source material. Notably, Season 2, Episode 1, "A Lesson For Your Next Life," begins with a scene set in a parallel dimension, featuring an evil version of Mark, which introduces Invincible's take on the multiverse concept in the superhero genre.
Curious about the role of the Lizard League in all of this? Keep reading! Warning: spoilers for Invincible Season 2, Episode 2, "In About Six Hours I Lose My Virginity to a Fish," ahead.
Invincible Season 2: The Lizard League explained
In the prologue of the Invincible: Atom Eve special, which takes place 18 years before the main series, the Lizard League makes its first appearance. This league consists of six supervillains who, as their name implies, each emulate a different lizard species and aspire to conquer the world.
Queen Lizard (portrayed by Tatiana Maslany) led the group, nurturing her young son, Prince Lizard (played by Jacob Tremblay), to become her successor. The Lizard League consisted of other remarkable members like Salamander, Iguana, and Komodo Dragon during its early stages. Together, they presented a formidable challenge, effectively holding their ground against the Guardians of the Globe until Omni-Man (portrayed by J.K. Simmons) arrived to provide assistance.
The Lizard League's fortunes have taken a downturn since its previous appearances. In Invincible Season 2, Episode 2, the League, now led by Supreme Lizard (Fred Tatasciore), is seen as a joke by Cecil (Walton Goggins), the boss of the Guardians of the Globe. Cecil's unfavorable opinion of the League is proven right when, despite having an army of grunts, they are defeated by the dysfunctional Guardians team. However, a later episode suggests that the Lizard League, now led by King Lizard (Scoot McNairy), formerly known as Prince Lizard, may have a chance to regain their previous success after King Lizard eliminates Supreme Lizard and takes control of the League.
What other villains are in Invincible Season 2?
The true impact of Lizard League on Invincible and his allies, led by King Lizard, remains uncertain as Season 2 progresses. However, regardless of whether the League proves to be a formidable force, Mark Grayson will face numerous imminent dangers that will undoubtedly occupy his attention before the conclusion of Season 2.

One of the most significant characters in the second season is Angstrom Levy, the main antagonist. In the episode titled "A Lesson For Your Next Life," Levy is introduced as someone who possesses the unique capability to open portals across different dimensions. His ultimate goal is to assimilate the wisdom of his alternate versions in order to reshape Earth into a perfect society.
Regrettably, Invincible mistakenly interrupts Levy's experiment, believing the scientist to have sinister intentions. This leads to a disastrous accident, leaving Levy disfigured and haunted by the memories of his deceased counterparts from multiple universes. Moreover, Levy seeks revenge on Mark! Editor's P/S
Invincible Season 2 has finally arrived, and with it comes a new set of challenges for Mark Grayson and the rest of the heroes. One of the most intriguing new additions to the show is the Lizard League, a group of supervillains who are all themed after different types of lizards.
The Lizard League is led by Queen Lizard, a powerful and cunning villain who is determined to conquer the world. She is aided by her son, Prince Lizard, and several other members, including Salamander, Iguana, and Komodo Dragon. The Lizard League has already proven to be a formidable foe for the heroes, and they are sure to cause even more trouble in the episodes to come.
I am excited to see how the Lizard League develops over the course of the season. I think they have the potential to be one of the most interesting and dangerous groups of villains that Invincible has faced yet. I am also curious to learn more about their backstory and how they came to be. Overall, I am very happy with the addition of the Lizard League to Invincible Season 2. They are a great addition to the show and I can't wait to see what they do next.
