Marvel Studios has recently made several announcements regarding delays in their upcoming movie releases. Deadpool 3, originally set for May 3, 2024, has now been rescheduled to release on July 26, 2024. Similarly, Captain America: Brave New World, initially planned for July 26, 2024, will now be hitting theaters on February 14, 2025. The Thunderbolts movie is experiencing a shift as well, moving from December 20, 2024, to July 25, 2025. Lastly, the Blade film is being postponed from February 15, 2025, to November 7, 2025.

Apart from Marvel movies, Disney has decided to postpone the release of the next Lion King movie, Mufasa, from July 5, 2024 to December 20, 2024. In addition, Disney had undisclosed movies lined up for release on July 25, 2025 and November 7, 2025, but those dates have now been canceled. Consequently, Deadpool 3 is the sole Marvel Studios film currently planned for release in 2024. Typically, Marvel releases at least two Marvel films each year. Although circumstances can always change, as of now, Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel movie heading to the silver screen in 2024.

Marvel movie release dates

Deadpool 3 -- July 26, 2024

Captain America: Brave New World -- February 14, 2025

Thunderbolts -- July 25, 2025

Blade -- November 7, 2025

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that according to Variety, principal photography for Brave New World has already been completed. However, it is not uncommon for films to need additional filming due to various reasons. On the other hand, production for Thunderbolts and Blade has not yet commenced. As for Deadpool 3, it had begun filming before the Hollywood strikes started and is now slated to resume production.

In related news, actor Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that Dogpool will make a cameo appearance in Deadpool 3.

Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool in addition to Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic will also be coming back to portray their respective characters, Vanessa and Colossus. Jennifer Garner will be returning as Elektra. Joining the cast for Deadpool 3 in new roles are Emma Corrin from The Crown and Matthew Macfadyen from Succession. There are rumors that Taylor Swift might also be appearing in the movie.

Shawn Levy, the director of Reynolds' film Free Guy, is set to direct Deadpool 3. The writing team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, along with Zeb Wells from Robot Chicken, will be crafting the script.

Regarding the SAG-AFTRA strike, a preliminary agreement has been reached between the labor union and Hollywood studios, and it is expected to be officially finalized in the near future. The writers' union, WGA, had already concluded their own strike back in September.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am both excited and disappointed by the delays in Marvel's upcoming films. On the one hand, I am thrilled that we will finally get to see Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, and Blade, all of which are highly anticipated films. On the other hand, I am disappointed that we will have to wait longer than expected to see these movies.

However, I understand that delays are sometimes necessary to ensure that the films are of the highest quality possible. I am confident that Marvel Studios will use this extra time to make these movies even better than they already would have been. In the meantime, I will be patiently waiting for their release and enjoying the other Marvel movies that are currently available.
