Fans were initially thrilled with the first glimpse of Wolverine's new suit in Deadpool 3, but they were left disappointed as Hugh Jackman's arms were concealed. However, a fan theory suggests that there may be a valid explanation for this.
Despite making his appearance in Deadpool 3 set for 2024, Hugh Jackman took on the role of Wolverine back in 2000 and has since become synonymous with one of Marvel's most beloved characters. In the early X-Men movies, the mutant team sported coordinated dark leather suits, deviating from the iconic costumes depicted in the comics and cartoons. The only nod fans received towards the traditional suits came when Logan inquired about the team's attire, prompting team leader Cyclops to inquire, "Do you prefer yellow spandex?"
Fans were delighted to see the yellow and blue suit in the Deadpool 3 photos, which featured Wolverine. It had been over twenty years since fans had seen a comic-based costume, so the excitement was high. However, some fans noticed that Hugh Jackman's arms were covered, unlike the typically bare-armed Wolverine. A Twitter user named BorkEternal explained that the costume inaccuracy was due to Jackman's susceptibility to skin cancer. Jackman has been open about his treatments for basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer, since 2013. Thankfully, his latest check-up in April 2023 gave him the all-clear. Since his own experience, Jackman has been advocating for skin protection and urging fans to take care of their skin, especially during the summer months.
While not yet confirmed, a lot of Twitter users have made a connection between Wolverine's sleeves and Jackman's vulnerability to skin cancer. Leaked photos of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Jackman in his new suit were taken outdoors, under bright sunlight. Many Twitter fans believe that the costume was designed with Jackman's health in mind.
Considering Jackman's desire to protect himself from further skin cancer risks, fans are pleased to see a costume that deviates slightly from the comics' accuracy. Additionally, one Twitter user mentions that the suit may not remain intact throughout the movie, leaving open the possibility of fans seeing Wolverine's bare arms without jeopardizing Jackman's health.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
