Days Gone Director Disappointed by PlayStation Showcase

Days Gone director expresses disappointment after latest PlayStation Showcase, which unveiled new projects like a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and a handheld for the PS5

The recent PlayStation Showcase introduced several exciting new projects, including a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and a handheld device to accompany the PlayStation 5. However, Jeff Ross, one of the directors of the PS4 console exclusive game Days Gone, expressed feeling "bummed out" after watching the event. Despite being a successful title in terms of sales, Days Gone has received mixed reviews, with an average Metacritic score of 71, placing it just above the Knack titles. It appears that Ross is disappointed with Sony, which has left him with some sad feelings following the showcase.

Ross took to Twitter to express his disappointment after the completion of the Showcase. His despondency stems from the cancellation of Days Gone 2, which has been known for some time despite the game's impressive sales. Although both Bend Studio and Jeff Ross have moved on to other projects, Ross is still not entirely over the idea of a sequel that never materialized.

In one of his comments, Jeff hinted that Days Gone 2 could have been one of the latest PS5 exclusives if things had gone differently. Fans of the original game will be intrigued to learn that Jeff also revealed in another response that Boozer, Deacon's best friend, would have been the main character in the sequel. It would undoubtedly have been fascinating to see how the story would have developed in a sequel led by Boozer. Fortunately, everyone at Bend Studio is still enthusiastic about what's in store for the PS5.

John Garvin, who co-directed Days Gone with Jeff Ross, has previously made controversial remarks about the game's shortcomings. In a tweet from late 2022, Garvin attributed part of the game's critical failure to "woke reviewers." It should be noted, however, that his comments do not necessarily reflect the opinions of others who worked on the game, and he had already left Bend Studio before expressing his views. Days Gone is currently available for PC and PS4.
