Daryl Hall secures restraining order in ongoing legal dispute with John Oates

Daryl Hall files a lawsuit against ex-bandmate John Oates, obtaining a restraining order, as per court records in Nashville's chancery court

Daryl Hall has taken legal action against his former bandmate John Oates by filing a lawsuit in Nashville's chancery court, as documented in court records. Both musicians gained fame as the members of the well-known rock duo Hall & Oates, achieving tremendous success in the early 1980s with hit songs such as "Private Eyes" and "Maneater."

Hall filed a lawsuit against both Oates and Oates's trust for a contract or debt dispute, but the specifics of the case are not publicly available. According to court records, the court approved Hall's request for a temporary restraining order, which will be effective starting November 30.

The contents of the file are mostly sealed, so the specifics of the restraining order are not clear. This type of order is often used in business disputes to prevent one party from causing harm to the other party's financial interests. CNN has contacted representatives and lawyers for both Hall and Oates to request comment and additional details.

The hitmakers first crossed paths in Philadelphia during the 1960s and, as per the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, achieved 29 Top Forty hits from 1976 to 1990.

According to Parke Puterbaugh's write-up for Hall & Oates' induction into the Hall of Fame in 2014, their most unforgettable hits include the ethereal chorus of "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", the lively beat and chiming harmonies of "Kiss on My List", the weightless rhythmic flow and blend of voices in "Maneater", and the poignant, soul-stirring refrain of "She's Gone".
