Photos from season 2 of Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead reveal a new location and provide a glimpse into the future of the spinoff. The show, which has extensively explored the consequences of the zombie apocalypse in America, has now expanded to Europe, with popular character Norman Reedus embarking on a new adventure in France. Currently in its first season on AMC, the spinoff has already been renewed for a second season. Though season 1 is still ongoing, behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of season 2 show that the series is filming at Paris' Louvre Museum, indicating that it will continue to take place in France beyond its initial season. Take a look at the photos below (via TWD Universe France/Instagram):
Crew members can be seen in the new images giving the grounds in front of the Louvre a post-apocalyptic makeover, while other images show a row of parked military vehicles.
TWD’s Spinoffs Are Finally Emphasizing Focused Storytelling
While the original Walking Dead series commenced with a compact troupe of characters and a concentrated narrative, the addition of new characters and settings over time led to a divergence from this focal point. Rather than delivering compelling and standalone stories, the series gradually relied on formulaic elements, repeatedly revisiting similar scenarios, ultimately leading to a monotonous and uninteresting tone.
TWD's new spinoffs aim to address the scattered nature of the original series by focusing on smaller groups of characters and more cohesive narratives. Dead City introduced a six-episode arc centered around Maggie's mission to save her kidnapped son, Hershel, in post-apocalyptic New York, as well as her complicated relationship with Negan.
Following in the footsteps of Dead City, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon tells its own self-contained story. It follows Daryl as he becomes the protector of a young child named Laurent, reminiscent of The Last of Us. This storyline adds a much-needed narrative direction to the new spinoff, which was lacking in the later seasons of the original series. Based on leaked set photos, viewers can anticipate Daryl's journey taking him to the Louvre, although it is unlikely to be an enjoyable experience for him.
