Marvel's Unexpected Daredevil: Born Again Overhaul Explained
Daredevil: Born Again, announced during Marvel Studios' 2022 San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel, is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated TV projects in the MCU's lineup. Originally slated for a Spring 2024 debut, it was then removed from the release calendar due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, resulting in expected delays. However, a recent shocking report reveals that the production has encountered its own set of problems. In late September, head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman were unexpectedly removed from the project, along with the replacement of the directors of the remaining 9 episodes, despite having already completed filming for the first half.
Marvel executives decided to revamp the series due to its lack of success. As a result, new writers are being sought after and efforts are being made to utilize the existing filmed material. Marvel Studios faces additional scrutiny with Daredevil: Born Again due to the previous success of Netflix's Daredevil. Regardless, it is commendable that Marvel Studios recognized the series was not meeting their standards and chose to reassess rather than take unnecessary risks.
However, it is evident that Marvel Studios has some challenges to address within their TV division. Most of their Disney+ offerings have received mixed or negative responses. Notably, Loki has been an exception, receiving generally positive reviews for both seasons. Moving forward, it is hopeful that Daredevil: Born Again will be the final small-screen project in the MCU to encounter significant production issues.
