Daima's Controversial Twist: Dragon Ball Fans Left Reeling Over This Beloved Duo

Dragon Ball fans express disappointment as Dragon Ball Daima's teaser trailer reveals a surprising twist for fan-favorite duo Goten and Trunks, transforming them into adorable babies

Dragon Ball Daima unveiled its initial teaser trailer on Thursday, October 12th. While many enthusiasts eagerly welcomed the franchise's upcoming anime release, there were certain fans who expressed disappointment with the treatment of their beloved duo – Goten and Trunks – by animation studio Toei Animation.

In the franchise, Goten and Trunks were introduced as prodigious characters capable of transforming into Super Saiyans at the remarkably young ages of seven and eight, respectively. Although they had their moment to shine during the Fusion Saga, their fortunes have steadily declined ever since. Just as anticipation grew for the franchise to portray the duo as more mature teenagers, the latest anime teaser seemed to map out a different destiny for them.

As depicted in the Dragon Ball Daima teaser trailer, all the characters in the series are slated to undergo a transformation, resulting in younger versions of themselves. While adult characters like Goku and Vegeta will be rendered as adolescents, Goten and Trunks will be transformed into infants.

Fans became frustrated with the limited physical development of Goten and Trunks since their initial introduction in Dragon Ball Z. Just as the duo experienced growth and began attending high school in the manga storyline, Toei Animation decided to produce an anime in which they regressed into babies. With the anime scheduled for release in Fall 2024, it was anticipated that the duo would remain in their infant state until 2025.

Fans have astutely observed that the transformation of Goten and Trunks into infants could potentially result in the erasure of Pan and Bulla's existence. In light of this, it is plausible that the events of the anime occur immediately after the conclusion of the Kid Buu Saga, implying that Pan and Bulla might not have been born at all.

Many fans were convinced that the duo was being treated poorly due to their relegation to side characters in the series. This sentiment was reinforced by the fact that, despite their formidable power levels, they were overlooked for inclusion in the Universe 7 team during the Tournament of Power Saga.

Meanwhile, there were fans who comically reacted to the incident. Some argued that the Dragon Ball Daima anime brought a smile to their faces, emphasizing how it reintroduced Trunks' iconic purple hair. Notably, in Dragon Ball Super, Trunks' hair transitions from blue to purple as he matures. Perhaps due to their nostalgia, fans cherished the fact that his purple locks made a comeback in the new series.

In the meantime, some fans joked about how Piccolo was once again going to be stuck with babysitting duties. After looking after both Gohan and Pan in the past, it's highly probable that he will be entrusted with the care of baby Goten and Trunks as well.

There were fans who proposed alternative plots for the anime's development. One imaginative suggestion involved the transformation of adult characters into children and vice versa in the Dragon Ball Daima series. This creative twist would have presented challenges for characters such as Goten, Trunks, Pan, and Bulla as they sought ways to assist their parents.

Finally, a fan took advantage of this moment to commend Dragon Ball Kakumei, the manga doujinshi that showcased Goten and Trunks achieving Super Saiyan God status. Numerous other fans also joined in the acclaim, recognizing the creators' genuine concern for the development of the supporting characters.
