The perk system in Cyberpunk 2077 is a fundamental aspect that empowers players to personalize their character's playstyle. This highly customizable game allows players to have complete control over various aspects, including actions like dining during dialogues and customizing their character's appearance and equipment.
Alongside these features are attributes, which enhance statistics, skills that unlock talents corresponding to attributes, and perks that offer either passive bonuses or new abilities. While it is possible to respec attributes and perks in Cyberpunk 2077, there are certain details to keep in mind.
Updated by Erik Petrovich on October 27, 2023: In Cyberpunk 2077's 2.0 update, a new and improved method for respeccing has been introduced in the main game. Players can now reset their Attributes and Perks more easily than before. While there is a slight limitation to respeccing Attributes, the restrictions on resetting Perks have been significantly reduced. The process of respeccing no longer requires players to visit a specific location or obtain an item; it can now be done directly from within the game menu. The 2.0 update has brought about significant changes to the core mechanics of Cyberpunk 2077, and familiarizing oneself with the new respec systems is the first step towards developing a well-optimized character build capable of tackling the challenges presented by both the Phantom Liberty expansion and the base game.
How to Reset Attributes in Cyberpunk 2077
The 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077 allows players to reset their Attribute points, albeit with certain limitations. Within the Attribute menu, players who have not yet reallocated their points during their playthrough will notice the presence of a button located at the bottom left corner of the screen – "Reset Attributes." Simply press this button to receive a full refund on all Attributes, including those already expended during character creation, and reallocate them as desired.
The downside of the ability to respec Attributes in the 2.0 update is that it can only be done once. It is advisable to wait until reaching at least Level 20 or the beginning of Act 2 in the base game before deciding to reset Attributes. By this point, players will have a clearer understanding of their preferred playstyle for the remainder of Cyberpunk 2077, making it easier to focus on the specific stats that are crucial for desired builds.
How to Reset Perks in Cyberpunk 2077
Resetting Attributes in Cyberpunk 2077 is a significant choice, as it can only be done once. However, resetting Perks is a simpler and more forgiving process. In each sub-menu for every Attribute, players can utilize Perk points to acquire various passive and active skills associated with that particular Attribute. By hovering over the selected Perks, players will notice an option to "REFUND".
Click this button to instantly remove the Perk from V and receive a Perk Point to allocate elsewhere. Players must first refund any connected Perks before attempting to refund main Perks, as the latter will not reset unless the skills they unlock are also refunded. The process of refunding Perks can be repeated as many times as desired, at no additional cost, within this menu.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently accessible on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, while versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X are currently being developed.
