Highlights
Detective Pikachu Returns allows players to interact with Pokemon and understand their thoughts and feelings, providing new perspectives on how these creatures act.
Introducing Pawniard, the first stage in its evolutionary line, the game highlights both its charm and power in a compelling way. Despite being often overlooked in favor of its evolved counterpart, Bisharp, Pawniard asserts its value by showcasing its sheer strength and unyielding determination. This further emphasizes the significance of its rigorous training.
In Detective Pikachu Returns, players once again have the opportunity to team up with Pokemon and solve mysteries. Serving as a delightful addition for fans of the franchise, the game can be enjoyed while waiting for the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLCs. Taking on the role of aspiring detective Jim Goodman, players join forces with Detective Pikachu to solve cases and address local issues in Ryme City. One of the highlights of both the original game and its sequel is the ability for Tim to communicate with humans and for Detective Pikachu to converse with Pokemon.
Detective Pikachu Returns offers a rich and interactive experience with the diverse creatures found in Game Freak's popular RPG franchise. When controlling Tim, his Pikachu partner acts as a translator, much like Meowth in the original anime series. As players assume the role of Detective Pikachu, they gain a direct understanding of what the Pokemon are saying. This unique perspective provides insight into the behavior and emotions of Pokemon, and serves as a helpful reminder for fans, such as Pawniard, about the intricacies of certain creatures.
Pokemon's Pawniard and Bisharp
Introduced in the 5th Generation of Pokemon games, Bisharp has gained considerable popularity among fans. This is mostly due to its frequent usage in competitive Pokemon VGC, even after the recent introduction of its new evolution, Kingambit, in Scarlet and Violet. Additionally, many fans admire Bisharp's cool appearance and formidable attack stat. Undoubtedly, Bisharp is the most popular out of the three evolutionary lines, with Kingambit closely following as a second favorite.
Unfortunately, little attention is given to Pawniard, the initial form in this evolutionary line. Despite the fact that Pawniard must be trained until level 52 to evolve into Bisharp, fans rarely discuss its smaller counterpart. The inclusion of Pawniard's potential in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has only exacerbated this issue. However, there is a silver lining. Detective Pikachu Returns' first real case features a Pawniard, demonstrating its own unique charm in the process.
Detective Pikachu Returns Turns Pawniard Into an Adorable Force of Nature
In Detective Pikachu Returns, players embark on their first case called "The Missing Jewel," which takes an interesting turn when a "red Pokemon" becomes a potential suspect for assaulting one of the butlers in the mansion where the crime occurred. This leads Tim and Pikachu to discover the Unova Pokemon, Pawniard, hidden behind a training rock. Despite its seemingly adorable appearance, Pawniard's training rock bears evidence of its formidable strength through numerous cuts and gashes. Intrigued by its power, Detective Pikachu requests that the Steel-type Pokemon demonstrate its abilities by slicing the rock in half, a feat it accomplishes with ease in the presence of Pikachu, Tim, and the player.
The famous Bisharp owes its success to the rigorous training it received from the Pawniard it evolved from. However, the Pawniard had been manipulated by someone with a hidden agenda linked to the major mystery in Detective Pikachu Returns. It is now Tim and Pikachu's responsibility to uncover the truth behind this motive as they progress through the game.
