Shortly after concluding its successful 15-year stint on CBS, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit made a comeback on the small screen with Criminal Minds: Evolution, released exclusively on Paramount+. This innovative rendition of the crime drama maintains continuity with its predecessor, while embracing a bloodier and more sinister tone. Remarkably, before the inaugural season even wrapped up its captivating 10-episode journey, Paramount+ wasted no time in renewing the show for a sophomore installment. However, due to the unfortunate WGA strike commencing in May, the production for the eagerly anticipated second season, initially scheduled for June 2023, has been indefinitely postponed.

If Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 had followed its original timeline, it would have been ready for release later in 2023, consistent with its debut year. However, the show's release now depends on when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA can reach a settlement with studios. Unfortunately, there is currently no specific timeframe for resolving these issues. In the meantime, both writers and actors are united in their request for fair wages and improved working conditions.

The overall storyline for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 appears to have already been determined. The season 1 finale effectively sets the stage for what the BAU can expect with the introduction of the Gold Star mystery. Additionally, viewers continue to hope for the return of familiar Criminal Minds actors, such as Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney, reprising their roles as Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons.
