Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, has a chance to win a Tony Award. Her participation in The Outsiders: A New Musical has opened up this exciting possibility.
Vivienne became a fan of the musical after watching it multiple times during its 2023 run at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California. According to a profile in The New York Times, she even brought her mom to the closing night show. This marked the beginning of The Outsiders' journey to Broadway.
The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton in 1967, tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a 14-year-old boy living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ponyboy is dealing with the loss of his parents.
The book was made into a movie in 1983, also called The Outsiders. The film starred C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio, Matt Dillon, and Emilio Estevez.
In August 2023, it was announced that The Outsiders musical would be heading to Broadway, with Angelina leading the producing team.
"I consider myself lucky to be involved in this unique production," the actress expressed in a statement. "I am thrilled for the musical to premiere on Broadway and can't wait to introduce this fresh version of The Outsiders to audiences worldwide."

The Outsiders had its official Broadway debut on April 11, with Angelina and Vivienne walking the red carpet before the show.
Angelina, the assistant and coproducer on the production, mentioned that Vivienne will often "correct" her. According to Angelina, Vivienne will remind her of things in the memo and insist on following through with certain tasks. She described Vivienne as a tough assistant who approaches her role very seriously.
While the Tony Award nominations have not been announced yet, there is a possibility that Vivienne could win an award if The Outsiders receives a nomination. As a co-producer of the project, Vivienne would be eligible for consideration in the Best Musical category, which also means Angelina could potentially win.
The cast of The Outsiders: A New Musical includes Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Brent Comer as Darrel, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop, Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny Cade, and Joshua Boone as Dally.
Angelina shared her advice to the cast before they performed on stage during a People interview. She emphasized the importance of the cast viewing each other as a family every night and remembering that it is the most significant aspect of their performance.
She expressed her belief in the beauty of the cast working together as a cohesive unit during the show. Angelina noted that the journey of each character in finding themselves, facing challenges, and discovering their place in the world is evident as they progress through the performance.
