Texas state authorities have announced that they are currently in pursuit of a convicted sex offender who managed to escape from prison while serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The fugitive, 39-year-old Robert Yancy, Jr., had been incarcerated at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, approximately 60 miles south of Houston, for the continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Yancy fled at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday in a white Nissan Versa and is now suspected to have left Brazoria, according to the Brazoria County Sheriffs Office's Facebook page.
The license plate of the Nissan was input into a statewide plate reader system, which notified authorities that the car was seen at approximately 6:09 p.m. in Victoria County, approximately 110 miles west of Brazoria, the sheriffs office reported.
The Victoria Police Department reported that officers made a traffic stop around 8:25 p.m. on a white Nissan believed to be connected to the escaped inmate. The sole occupant of the vehicle was a female driver, who was arrested for an outstanding warrant related to Yancy's escape. No additional information was given about the relationship between Yancy and the female driver.
Yancy was last spotted in a black beanie and black sweater. The public is advised not to approach Yancy and to notify law enforcement of any sightings or information regarding his location.
