Controversial Cast Selection in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint Sparks Intense Debate Among Fans

Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint stirs mixed reactions among fans as BLACKPINK's Jisoo is revealed to take on a prominent role in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the popular webtoon series

As the popularity of webtoon K-content continues to soar, the highly anticipated film Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has announced its impressive ensemble cast of K-drama actors and even a member of BLACKPINK. However, this casting choice has left some webtoon fans feeling less than thrilled.

Created by author Sing Shong, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint delves into an exhilarating apocalyptic action storyline. The protagonist, Kim Dok-ja, is an ordinary office worker who derives joy from reading his beloved web novel. When the events from the novel start unfolding in reality, only he possesses the power to avert the impending apocalypse, ultimately altering the course of the world and his own fate.

The webtoon, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, will be adapted into a film with Ahn Hyo-seop playing the leading role of Dok-ja. Lee Min-ho will also star as the original character, Yoo Joong-hyuk, alongside other actors including Nana, Jung Sung-il, Park Ho-san, Chae Soo-bin, and Shin Seung-ho. Recent reports have confirmed the casting, eliciting mixed reactions from fans. Additionally, BLACKPINK's Jisoo, known for her role in Snowdrop, has joined the cast of the movie.

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo will play a main role in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint cast

Alongside Lee, Nana, and Ahn, Jisoo is in talks to join the cast as Lee Ji-hye, one of the original webtoon characters that Yoo Joong-hyuk takes on as his apprentice.

According to Soompi, there has been a positive response to Jisoo's offer to star in the webtoon K-drama. However, the original webtoon fans are feeling conflicted as the cast of "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" is being finalized.

On X (Twitter), a fan expressed their frustration with the casting lineup, stating, "I apologize for being critical, but this casting doesn't capture the essence of orv at all." Another fan chimed in, sharing their lack of excitement, mentioning, "I'm not thrilled, especially since they announced it would be live-action."

Some fans of the original webtoon believed that the live-action adaptation was prioritizing well-known actors in the industry. "They referred to orv as a pinnacle of the holy trinity for a reason, for goodness sake..!! Please refrain from casting popular actors (with a different aura) solely for the purpose of gaining an audience!!" exclaimed the fan.

Another fan agreed, stating, "You're absolutely right. I can't understand why people are dismissing our opinions when we are dedicated fans. We are the reason this is being adapted into a drama, and if they don't meet our expectations, they shouldn't expect our support."

Numerous individuals expressed their disappointment in the actors' inability to capture the essence of the webtoon, raising doubts about whether the producers even read the story. "I completely agree. I was so disappointed with Jisoo. Why would they cast her? She's too old to portray Ji-hye and doesn't embody her character at all. And casting Lee Minho as YJH? It seems like a joke," shared one fan.

Fans who supported the casting urged those who were unhappy to refrain from watching. "No one is forcing you to watch it," one fan pointed out, while another suggested, "If you don't like it, just don't watch it and keep quiet."

A webtoon fan, however, saw no issue with the casting and expressed contentment, stating, "I enjoy reading 'orv' and I personally think the casting is satisfactory. It's all about differing opinions, after all."
