Bridgerton season’s carriage scene would certainly shock the ton, and one specific moment was all because of actor Luke Newton.
This post has spoilers for Bridgerton season 3, part 1.
Colin (Newton) and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) romance reaches its peak in the carriage. After Penelope leaves a ball due to being rejected by Lord Debling (Sam Phillips), she decides to go home. As the carriage starts moving, Colin chases after it to finally confess his love to his longtime friend.
In response to Colin’s heartfelt confession, Penelope admits that she feels the same way. They share a passionate moment in the carriage, but their intimate encounter is cut short when they arrive at Bridgerton House. The driver had been instructed to drop off Colin at this point. Before parting ways, Colin gently fixes Penelope’s dress sleeve with just a few fingers.
The scene in Bridgerton that has everyone talking is the dalliance set to an orchestral version of Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything”. Fans can't stop discussing Colin's skillful use of just a couple of fingers to fix his love’s gown.
Andrew Ahn, a director on Bridgerton season 3, has revealed that the idea for this romantic gesture actually came from the 31-year-old actor himself.
"I must admit, I can't take credit for this amazing moment of genuine physicality. It was actually all thanks to Luke Newton!" Ahn shared on X on Saturday, May 18.

At the end of the scene, Colin hops out of the carriage and extends his hand to Penelope to follow his lead.
Colin asks Penelope if she will come with him. He then impatiently questions her about whether she will marry him or not. Penelope is about to respond when the camera cuts to black, leaving viewers in suspense until the next part of the season.
Newton and Coughlan, 37, have kept the details of their characters' love story a secret. Four new episodes are set to be released on June 13. Despite this, they had a strong trust in each other while filming the romantic scenes.
Coughlan shared with Today that filming the scenes felt natural and not forced. They both trusted each other and were focused on making the scenes the best they could be.
Coughlan and Newton were so caught up in the moment that they missed the production team telling them to stop. Coughlan remembered, "They were watching us on the monitors and wondering what we were up to." The director had to intervene and ask, "What were you doing? We told you to stop!"
Bridgerton season 3, part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
