Coachella 2024 Recap: Iconic Reunions, Stellar Performances, and Memorable Moments

The first weekend of Coachella 2024 just wrapped up, and the off-stage events created quite a buzz, almost overshadowing what happened on stage.

Celebrities like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were spotted in the crowd, enjoying performances by Ice Spice and Bleachers. Paris Hilton joined Vampire Weekend for a fun game of Cornhole during their Western-themed set. Grimes made a grand entrance on a giant robot spider, while Will Smith rocked his suit and Ray Bans for a performance of "Men In Black." Suki Waterhouse surprised fans with a gender reveal during her set. ATEEZ brought the K-Pop vibes, and The Aquabats hosted a lively "pool party" on stage. And believe it or not, these were just a few highlights before the headliners took the stage!

Over the weekend, Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator, and Doja Cat headlined the Coachella festival. Lana Del Rey surprised the crowd with a hologram version of herself during her performance on Friday. Tyler, The Creator made a grand entrance by literally exploding on stage at the start of his set on Saturday. Doja Cat's set included dancing yetis and a chase by a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton on Sunday.

The second weekend of Coachella 2024 is scheduled from April 19-21. Stay tuned to see what surprises and performances the bands have in store to surpass the excitement of Weekend 1.

Taylorchella

For a moment, it seemed that the only time Swift caught live music was when she danced at awards shows. However, Swift made up for lost time by attending Coachella alongside Kelce.

Celebrity Appearances Galore

The two lovebirds enjoyed watching Taylor Swift's BFF Jack Antonoff perform with his band Bleachers on Day 2. Later, they were thrilled to see Swift's new friend, Ice Spice, take the stage. To top off the night, Swift, Kelce, and Ice Spice danced the night away at DJ Dom Dolla's set, with Kelce effortlessly lifting his love in the air.

After the lineup disappointed fans online and had slower ticket sales than expected, each act reached out to their contacts to find someone to join them on stage.

During Bizarrap's set on Friday, Shakira surprised the audience by performing "La Fuerte" and announcing her upcoming world tour. Together, Shakira and Bizarrap also performed "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53," a track that referenced her ex Girard Pique.

During his performance on a set with an extraterrestrial theme, J Balvin was joined by Will Smith, also known as "Agent J" from Men In Black. The Oscar-winning actor and rapper, previously known as "The Fresh Prince," then sang the theme song from the 1997 movie.

Tems had a special guest appearance by Justin Bieber during her performance. Bieber, who had not performed in two years prior to the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend in February, joined Tems and Wizkid on stage to perform her 2021 hit, "Essence."

On Sunday, Reneé Rapp delighted her fans with a special surprise appearance by Kesha. Kesha performed her popular song "Tik Tok" on stage, but with modified lyrics that took a dig at Diddy for his alleged sexual misconduct.

Before Del Rey wrapped up the show on Friday, rising star Peso Pluma brought out a lineup of talented artists. Becky G, Junior H, Santa Fe Klan, and Arcángel joined Pluma on stage to perform their collaborative songs together.

Unexpected Fugees Reunion

On Saturday, Vampire Weekend was embracing a country vibe with a blues-Americana sound when out of nowhere, Paris Hilton appeared wearing a cowboy hat. She joined in a game of Cornhole, picking up the beanbags and mentioning that she hadn't played since her time on The Simple Life.

Lauryn Hill made a special appearance at Coachella by joining her son, YG Marley, on stage during his Sunday afternoon performance. The crowd was further thrilled when Wyclef Jean also joined them, and together they performed hit songs like “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not,” and “Fu-Ge-La.”

During YG Marley's set at Coachella, Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star gave a performance. Unfortunately, the third Fugees member, Pras, was absent. He was convicted in April 2023 on multiple federal charges, such as conspiracy, witness tampering, and failure to register as an agent of China. Pras could potentially face up to 20 years in prison.

No Doubt Makes a Triumphant Return

The spirit of the '90s was revived at Coachella with performances from Deftones, Blur, and the reunited Sublime featuring Jakob Nowell on vocals and guitar. However, the most anticipated act from the '90s was none other than No Doubt.

Saturday's performance was a long-awaited reunion for No Doubt, with Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Adrian Young coming together to play their biggest hits like "Hella Good," "Just A Girl," "Don't Speak," and "Spiderwebs."

Olivia Rodrigo made a special appearance during the set to perform "Bathwater," a song she has always loved.

Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish

Lana Del Rey ended Night 2 with a stunning performance. She sang “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have – But I Have It” as a hologram, accompanied by her friend Antonoff on the piano. Before that, Jon Batiste also joined Del Rey on stage for “Candy Necklace.” But the highlight of Del Rey’s set was when Billie Eilish made a surprise appearance.

After bringing out Eilish, Del Rey exclaimed, "Yep, that’s the voice of your generation, the voice of our generation. I’m so grateful she’s standing next to me right now." In response, the "Bad Guy" singer expressed, "You're the reason for half of you bitches existence, including mine."

They then performed renditions of Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes” and Del Rey’s “Video Games.”

Tyler, The Creator Blows Up

This cameo wasn’t the only Coachella moment for Eilish. She also had a club night/listening party at Do Lab’s tent on Saturday where she gave a sneak peek of a song from her new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The track, rumored to be called “Lunch,” showcased Eilish's admiration for another woman ("I can eat that girl for lunch," was one of the lyrics).

Tyler started his performance on Saturday with a bang, playing a video of himself in a park ranger's uniform. He joked about giving up his music career to live in a camper on the Coachella stage. The crowd was in for a surprise as the camper exploded, and Tyler burst through the wall. The energy was electric as he brought out Childish Gambino to perform "Running Out of Time."

Tyler, the Creator had some strong feelings towards Gambino, also known as Donald Glover. He admitted, "I used to hate that n—a. Seriously." Tyler even mentioned that he needs therapy to understand why he felt that way. However, his perspective changed when he heard Gambino's song 'Urn'. Tyler was conflicted because he couldn't believe someone he disliked so much could create something so good.

Doja Cat Ends It on A Weird Note

Doja Cat also brought out ASAP Rocky to perform “Potato Salad” and “Who Dat Boy”, singer-songwriter Charlie Wilson to perform “Earfquake”, and Kali Uchis to perform “See You Again”. In the end, Doja Cat got caught up in a windstorm and was blown off stage to close out Night 2.

Doja Cat ended the first weekend of Coachella in a fabulous way. She wore a stylish white furry two-piece outfit and her performance featured a mud pit, dancing Yetis, and a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton chasing her on stage.

Doja Cat captivated the audience at Coachella with her unique style. She kicked off her performance wearing a blonde wig that cascaded down to her knees. As the show progressed, she was joined by dancers dressed in furry suits, creating a whimsical scene that made it seem like she had enlisted the local Bigfoot population to be part of her entourage.

Doja Cat was joined by some friends during her performance at Coachella. Teezo Touchdown performed with her for the live debut of “MASC.” ASAP Rocky made a return for “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!,” and 21 Savage joined her for “n.h.i.e.” Additionally, Doja introduced the Coachella crowd to The Joy, a five-man a capella group from South Africa.

To close her set, Doja performed “Wet Vagina,” which led to the stage turning into a giant mud pit. With her dancers, they embraced the muddy setting, crawling around each other, concluding the night with a playful innuendo.
