Matthew Perry was captured in a photograph enjoying a meal with a friend, who has recently come forward to share details about their rendezvous. Athenna Crosby has publicly verified her presence as the woman seen accompanying Perry at the Hotel Bel-Air on the day prior to his untimely passing at the age of 54.

Crosby expressed her thoughts on social media, sharing a statement on her Instagram stories on Wednesday. She addressed the sad news of Matthew's death and explained her initial hesitation to discuss it publicly. Crosby wanted the focus to be on Matthew and his legacy, as he valued his privacy. Despite that, she wanted to acknowledge their friendship and mentioned that she had spoken to him and seen him shortly before his passing.

In another post featuring a photo of her at their lunch, which was captured by TMZ, Crosby clarified that her intention was not to discuss Perry, but she felt compelled to do so after being recognized. Furthermore, she kindly requested that individuals refrain from speculating about his passing and proceeded to share her account of his mindset during their encounter.

"I would like to emphasize that Matthew was in an exceptionally positive state of mind and passionately shared his future plans with me," stated Crosby. "He radiated happiness and energy."

Crosby added that it is important to recognize that the man was making a comeback and deserved more time on this earth. She expressed that the entertainment industry has suffered a great loss with the passing of a true legend. Rest in peace. Additionally, Crosby took to her Instagram stories to share several videos, expressing her desire to shift the focus towards supporting the grieving friends and family of the deceased.

Crosby, 25, informed TMZ that she did not have a romantic relationship with Perry. They had met a few months ago through a mutual friend. She also spoke to "Entertainment Tonight" and mentioned that Perry was in good spirits and kept cracking jokes during their time together. Crosby revealed that they discussed potential actors to portray him in a biographical film based on his upcoming memoir, "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir," scheduled for release in 2022.

According to her, he expressed his desire to create a film centered around his life. Having previously collaborated with Zac Efron on a project, he intended to approach him about playing a younger version of himself. His enthusiasm stemmed from his eagerness to share his personal journey of overcoming addiction and to advocate for the cause, with the aim of assisting others. Perry and Efron had previously acted alongside each other in the comedy film "17 Again" released in 2009, where Efron portrayed a younger iteration of Perrys character.

CNN has reached out to representatives for both Crosby and Efron for comment.
