In his acceptance speech on Sunday, March 10, the 47-year-old actor expressed his gratitude, saying, "I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Thank you to the Academy, Chris Nolan, and Emma Thomas. The past 20 years with you have been the most exciting and creatively fulfilling journey. I owe you more than words can express."

Murphy expressed his gratitude to the entire cast and crew of Oppenheimer. He also gave a shoutout to his fellow nominees for best actor.

As a proud Irishman, Murphy reflected on the film about the man behind the atomic bomb. He acknowledged that, for better or for worse, we are all impacted by Oppenheimer's legacy. In conclusion, he dedicated his award to the peacemakers.

The awards show took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where the actor competed against Maestro’s Bradley Cooper, Rustin’s Colman Domingo, The Holdovers’ Paul Giamatti, and American Fiction’s Jeffrey Wright.

Before the ceremony, Cooper, aged 49, held the record for the most Oscar nominations in the category, with a total of 12 nods over his career.
