Chris Pine is defending his fashion choices.

During a sit-down interview with E! News to promote his latest film Wish, actor Pine, aged 43, playfully responded to a question about his viral "short shorts." Pine had caused a stir among online fans when he was spotted wearing a pair of white shorts to a workout class on October 27.

When E! News Chief Correspondent Kelti Knight jokingly asked if he wanted to defend his choice of attire, Pine confidently replied, "I don't believe there's anything to defend. They're just called shorts, aren't they?"

Pine’s signature look in recent years has been short shorts. The actor has been captured in photographs sporting thigh-exposing attire not only at the gym but also while running errands and hiking. His style choices have ranged from corduroy to cotton and even swimwear.

"It's a vibe," he stated, emphasizing its excellence. "It's reminiscent of Tom Selleck's charisma. It exudes a '70s surfer atmosphere. That's the one I personally prefer."

Selleck rose to fame in the 1980s with his leading role in the popular crime series Magnum, P.I. Portraying the character of Thomas Magnum, a private detective residing in Oahu, Hawaii, Selleck's wardrobe in the show was a true representation of the fashion trends of the era. Embodying the quintessential '80s style, his attire included Hawaiian print button-down shirts, sleeveless muscle tops, and, notably, the widely recognized short shorts.

Expressing his admiration for the iconic fashion of the '70s and '80s, Pine believes that everyone, including NBA players, should strive to incorporate it into their own personal style.

"Do you prefer to see them wearing short shorts, resembling basketball players and athletes like Magic Johnson, instead of wearing capri pants or anything similar on the court? Definitely," he replied, affirming, "Therefore, I will always wear short shorts."

"Will you keep this promise forever?" Knight pressed.

"I mean, until the legs give out," Pine quipped, nonchalantly.

Pine is not the sole male celebrity to have adopted the short shorts trend. Milo Ventimiglia caused a stir online when he confidently donned a pair of barely-there black shorts during his departure from the gym in April 2021.

Ventimiglia, aged 46, made a virtual appearance on The Talk in May 2021 to clarify his fashion choices regarding clothing attire.

"I assure you, this is simply a man heading out of the gym," Ventimiglia explained to the hosts. "I didn't even give it much thought. The shorts are of ordinary length, but during my workouts, I tend to fold them up a bit to push myself further."

The This Is Us actor went on to say that his shorts are “even a joke around some of my friends that are inside the gym when I’m there.”
