Chinese leader Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to be a "partner and friend" of the United States during a meeting with American business leaders in San Francisco. This comes as China aims to attract more foreign investment, which has been declining in recent times.
The dinner event, occurring alongside the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, follows Xi's productive discussion with US President Joe Biden, which resulted in progress towards stabilizing the strained relations between the world's leading economies.
Organized by the US-China Business Council and the National Committee on US-China Relations, this evening provided Xi with the opportunity to directly engage with American executives. These executives have become more cautious regarding China's economic slowdown and Xi's firm control over the economy, including a heightened national security crackdown that has unsettled foreign businesses.
Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla founder Elon Musk, and Nike executive chairman Mark Parker were among the dinner guests of Xi, according to China's state broadcaster, CCTV. We will continue to update the story as it develops.
