Chicago Med's April Star Drops Her One Surprising Demand To Make a Sensational Comeback

Yaya DaCosta reveals her one condition for April's return to Chicago Med, hinting at a potential job change Find out what the beloved actor has in mind for her character's future in this captivating article

Chicago Med star Yaya DaCosta has stated her one condition for returning to the show. The series, created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, first aired on NBC in 2015 and revolves around the lives and relationships of the emergency department staff at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. DaCosta portrays April Sexton, a dedicated caregiver who left Chicago Med after season 6 to pursue a nurse practitioner program.

Although DaCosta reprised her role in season 8, it remains uncertain whether she will make another appearance. In a recent interview with TV Insider, the actor revealed that if April were to make a comeback, it should be as a doctor. DaCosta explained that while April had helped her brother with his education, she expected her character to complete her own journey and reflected on the overall progression of April's arc. To find out more about DaCosta's thoughts on a potential return to Chicago Med, read her comments below.

"I always had the belief that April would complete her education and pursue a career as a doctor. However, her younger brother, Noah [Roland Buck III], whom she actually supported through his schooling, ended up becoming a doctor instead. Initially, the intention was to highlight female empowerment and then shift the focus back to April fulfilling her dream once Noah was established. But over time, everyone grew accustomed to seeing her in the role of a nurse. Her presence in the hospital, the way she engaged with patients, the valuable insights she brought to cases, and the trust the doctors had in her to anticipate their needs without being prompted - all of these factors greatly contributed to her credibility and the expectation that she would become a doctor. Therefore, if April Sexton ever returns to the screen, whether in this dimension or any other, it would have to be as a doctor."

Could April Return To Chicago Med?

April has played a significant role in Chicago Med, and her relationship with Ethan Choi (played by Brian Tee) has been a crucial storyline as the show has progressed. Although it seemed like their relationship had come to an end, things took a surprising turn in the season 6 finale. Ethan was shot, and April admitted that she was having a hard time moving on. Despite a brief absence from the series, DaCosta's character returned to Chicago Med in season 8 and reconnected with Ethan.

After purchasing a mobile clinic to expand their medical capabilities, April and Ethan's story took a positive turn following their wedding in Season 8 of Chicago Med. Although the One Chicago franchise often includes surprise appearances, such as Natalie Manning's season finale cameo, it is conceivable that April may make a comeback in Chicago Med. While her narrative may have concluded, there is a possibility for the show to reintroduce her character in a meaningful way. Considering her previous significant contributions at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, it would be intriguing to witness DaCosta's character take on a more prominent role. The return of April as a doctor would undoubtedly generate excitement among devoted Chicago Med fans who have followed her character's development throughout the years.
