Chelsea have secured the services of Santos' talented forward, Deivid Washington, for a fee of £17.1m (€20m), sealing the deal with a seven-year contract. The next step for the club is to deliberate on whether the 18-year-old Brazilian will join Mauricio Pochettino's first-team roster for the current season or be sent on loan to gain valuable experience in regular first-team action.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is expected to have a medical with the Blues in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Chelsea have reached an agreement with New England Revolution to acquire Petrovic for a fee of around £14m, including additional payments tied to performance. Additionally, the club has successfully negotiated personal terms with the talented Serbia international.

Chelsea's latest addition in the goalkeeper position will be Petrovic, making him their second major signing in that role this summer. This follows Robert Sanchez's arrival from Brighton in a £25m deal, subsequent to Kepa Arrizabalaga's loan move to Real Madrid and Edouard Mendy's transfer to Al Ahli. Petrovic, at 23 years old, has displayed exceptional skills while playing for New England Revolution, achieving seven clean sheets in 22 MLS games this season.

Jamie Carragher speaking on Monday Night Football:

Chelsea has truly been impressive in these two games. Their performance against Liverpool and West Ham was commendable.

However, it seems strange that despite their extravagant spending, Chelsea is not being considered a top-four team by many. This doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen, but it is disconcerting to think that a squad with such a hefty investment might not secure a top-four finish.

"Although I have been impressed with them in the last two games, I still believe that they require additional players in order to compete with Manchester City. I am not referring to winning the league, but rather to challenge them. Despite the recent signing of Robert Sanchez as a goalkeeper, I still think they need another talented goalie. Additionally, considering that Thiago Silva is 38 years old, they also need a high-quality center-back. Furthermore, I do not believe they currently possess a prolific goalscorer. It is worth noting that a goalscorer does not necessarily have to be a center-forward, as exemplified by Mohamed Salah of Liverpool who plays on the right wing. This is not a criticism of Nicolas Jackson, who recently joined the club and has impressed me."
